That quote is being misconstrued a tad:
Quote:
I don't see any Kubrick comparisons. From what I remember around the Kill Bill days, Tarantino isn't particularly fond of him. |

I can't judge fairly without seeing, so I will probs come back on Friday with a better response. Also I think any director would recommend seeing an IMAX film in an IMAX cinema. I do have so much respect for these directors and Nolan - he does stand by cinema and what it truly means, he has refused to use 3D gimmicks that have been forced on him (imagine Inception in 3D yuck!). It would be great if this film did have the depths and boldness 2001, Solaris etc all have, but we will soon see! ![]() Quote:

Nowadays, the big budget Sci-Fi films seem more routine and it's often the little films that impress me. Something like Europa Report or Moon. ![]() |

He got it so right with Alien, and I really trust him with Prometheus, and he convinced me to see in 3D which did not work for me (not like Gravity). I love Gravity, especially 3D version at cinema. The visuals are stunning and I loved the performances throughout, I have always struggled to like Sandra Bullock, but she convinced we she could act in this (ignoring few other roles) but mostly she does stuff I can't stand. Clooney was also pretty good, but not the best, I preferred him in Solaris lol. Gravity wasn't there for depth and mystery though, its a survival story and how we face challenges an duh our selves each day. It could have had more depth I agree and stuff, but I think it is nice having a simple film every once in a while. But also I think Gravity was made more for the technical efforts and side of things, almost a demo to show what the director and his crew are capable of. The camera work was stunning, from Lubezski of course! :P Sorry I ramble and don't explain myself well! ![]() Quote:

All that shows is that Tarantino has not seen a Malick, a Tarkovsky, or a Kubrick film for a long time ... Because (having seen it one week ago), Interstellar has nothing to be compared to anything directed by them. It is not even remotely close. There are only some very clumsy, lumpish, obvious references to 2001, but nothing fine, any average writer/director could have made them. Even this Tarantino sentence is absurd: "It’s been a while since somebody has come out with such a big vision to things." Does Tarantino watch anything apart from the Big 4/Big 5 blockbusters ? I was also ROTFL when I read Nolan saying he was inspired by The Mirror.. That he had just discovered (the last sentence is the most funny part of the joke) Last edited by inderweltsein; 11-05-2014 at 10:01 AM. |

There's plenty. I'd have no problem declaring any of the films that have topped my year-end charts over the past few years as masterpieces fit to stand alongside 2001 and Solaris. Adieu au langage, The Master, Blue Is The Warmest Colour, Hors Satan, Tabu, This Is Not A Film, Once Upon A Time In Anatolia and The Great Beauty are all towering works that I am confident will stand the test of time.

Oops I started a war here over my interstellar post!.
I'm going to see it no question in IMAX. will I love it more than Solaris or 2001 I doubt it. In general I've enjoyed all of Nolan films. He's high-end on the style side of directing. My only issue is I feel he definitely borrows/gets inspired by other movies from the past, and I can't recall if he ever admits to any of this?? Also it seems like his fan base online believe he can do no wrong. |

Also, when new films (or even new music) is prefaced with “this film conjures up feelings of x classic film” or “these guys are great – they sound like the Rolling Stones”… that usually means that we are not talking about enduring works of art. |

I think it's very hard to see any film as classics at the time of release. There will of course be many, many more films that came out recently will be regarded as classics.

Didn't he say that he disliked Mr. K? In fact, he said "f*ck him", but this was in his Pulp Fiction days, so he might have changed his mind. I love Kubrick and Tarantino though, and I'll still be seeing Interstellar in IMAX, regardless of any praise or comparisons (I actually like Christopher Nolan). I'm sure Tarantino sprayed his pants over it though because it was shot on IMAX film, and is being screened as a 70mm alternative, which Tarantino is nuts for. |

A lot of good films have been released over the past ten years. Are there a lot of Citizen Kanes or The Godfathers in there? I dunno. But I'll bet one could find a pretty healthy number of Rear Windows and maybe even an Eyes Wide Shut or three. |
