I love this -

PlayTime: Anatomy of a Gag

I wish I could see the whole movie like this - I suppose it's like playing a musical instrument, you have to practise to get to this level!

It has certainly increased my appreciation of the film

The Leopard is a daunting film that I always seem to hesitate to purchase. I feel its an important film for having in my library but at the same time I wonder how often I'll re-visit this film. Recently I watched Howards End and I went in assuming that I'd be bored to death since its about aristocracy and class systems but I actually found it quite interesting.

Speaking of My Darling Clementine, I think I'm going to watch this tonight!

Just read an article where Tarantino just compared interstellar to Kubrick and Tarkovsky?! Even PTA says it should be seen in IMAX only it's beautiful... Bold statement. Off-topic I know, but atleast those 4 directors are or will be in CC one day.

Lmao. I have a really hard time believing that.

Even if it is well-made, I doubt it has the depth that 2001 and Solaris possess.

I feel the same...bored is an understatement. I was struggling to stay awake, but the it was a beautifully filmed movie. The ballroom scenes were gorgeous. I am going to keep it for the time being...maybe it will grow on me.

The supplemental features on the politics of the era and the Risorgimento were insightful and gave me a better appreciation on the historical backdrop of the film.

No one's come to its defense yet! I was planning to pick it up in the B&N sale next week...

I just think this film is incredible - just been watching parts of it and I feel all the emotion and pain.
It's my wife's favourite Bergman film. I still like Fanny & Alexander better. It's great though.

pro-b, you need to put up a review of Master of the House. Way overdue.

Why do you doubt it, because it's a modern film? With all of the extra human and scientific knowledge available now, logic would seem to say that it would be possible to make an even deeper and more profound film now. For sure these last couple of years have been great for film and have produced films that will be regarded as classics, alongside of 2001 and Solaris. Embrace the possibility that an amazing, intellectual, deep film has been made this year instead of having the attitude that "anything new isn't as good as old".

Can't wait. I'm probably still going to go to see it on 35MM since it's so rare to see a new movie on that format these days.

I'm with you. I planned on 35MM, but a part of me wants to shell out the extra bucks for IMAX.

Nowhere did I state that "the new is not good". I have enjoyed more films this decade than I could have possibly imagined.

I am taking a premature approach to Interstellar, yes, as all of the trailers are making it out to be more of a visual spectacle than anything else. Furthermore, many of the early reviews of the film are very mixed. I understand that film is a subjective art medium, but it would still be better to feel reassured. Also, I am trying my best to not criticize Quentin Tarantino, but it is really freaking hard to top such films as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Solaris. They are two of the deepest and most profound films to ever be made, regardless of whether or not they are part of the science-fiction genre or not.

Also, aside from Boyhood, A Separation, and The Tree of Life, I really cannot think of too many other films that could eventually be regarded as a "classic" from this decade. Care to refresh my memory?

Were the reviews for 2001 and Solaris unanimously positive at the time of their release?

I am not sure about Solaris, but I know that 2001: A Space Odyssey had very mixed reactions upon its opening.

As I have already pointed out, my approach to Interstellar is very premature. I will not have anything definitive to say about the film until after I see it this weekend. That being said, I still hold to my opinion that the trailer depicts it as a visual spectacle more than anything else. I certainly hope that it does exceed all of my expectations and blows my mind away in terms of its depiction of space in light of all of the new information that has continued to surface over the years.

I can't speak for iScottie, but my guess is that his dubiousness isn't so much based on "new vs. old", but on "Nolan vs. Kubrick and Tarkovsky".

Me, I'm trying to stay excited about the film, but I can understand if someone else might not be.

I am not trying to turn this into a Christopher Nolan debate, as I do enjoy almost most of his film catalogue, but I will admit that I am a bit biased to the whole again. Again, I cannot definitely proclaim my opinion of Interstellar until after I have seen it, but I find it incredibly bold to make such a claim that it is as good as a Kubrick or Tarkovsky production.

I'll be catching it locally. Not sure what format the local theaters will be showing it in. The nearest theater showing it in 70mm IMAX is in Providence, Rhode Island (I'm in the seacoast area of New Hampshire). If I think the movie is spectacular enough to make a trek to Providence, I'll plan on it.

Though in fairness, only people who have seen it are sayign that.

I'm probably too late to the party but I just wanted to agree with iScottie on the Tarantino comparisons of Nolan's film to Kubrick and Tarkovsky. Obviously he's seen the film and we have not, but 2001: A Space Odyssey is only 1 of 2 films I rank a perfect 10 out of 10 on this website (the other 10 out of 10 film being Apocalypse Now).

I am personally "psyched" to see Interstellar. But will it not let me down like Prometheus and Gravity did? Who knows. I was really looking forward to those 2 aforementioned films but in the end it was more about style rather than substance. When an ambitious science fiction film tries to do too much, rather than be minimalistic and mysterious like 2001 was, that is where it fails in my opinion. Still to this day I don't understand quite everything in 2001 but a movie such as Prometheus I understand and wish I didn't. The stunt film Gravity had ZERO philosophy and mystery but sure, it was one heck of a first class thrill ride! I'm not looking for thrill rides though, I'm looking for f'ing meaning.
