The UK release of Daisies is Region Free, if you don’t want to wait.

Cool January announcements. I'm definitely on board for Scorsese's Rolling Thunder Revue, even though I already watched it on Netflix. The Ascent is pretty intriguing too, and an important film to have if you're a Russian cinema fan. I like the Buñuel box set even though a few of these films are already available on blu-ray (Region A). Minding the Gap I might watch sometime.

I was gonna pull the trigger on Coup De Torchon but I feel like Criterion is re-releasing all these OOP titles now so I might as well wait on this one and hope it will arrive by next year. (I wish, if not, I'll probably buy it next year). I'm so glad Criterion is doing this as I started collecting three years ago so I didn't have the chance to collect any OOP titles (Only three). I would say this is my favorite year among the three years I've been here and I wish the best for Criterion as they continue to re-release all these OOP titles and classics. I'm so glad StudioCanal's collection is finally being accessible once again in the US and I will continue getting these titles, even if they aren't in 4K.

Diary of a Chambermaid, Viridiana, and all the other Spanish titles like Los Olvidados and I think that wraps up the Bunuel collection!

I don't subscribe to Hulu, so I'm pretty pumped to see Minding the Gap.

It's nice to see the Buñuel titles back in the collection, although I probably won't be in a rush to buy the set if they use the same transfers as the Studio Canal blu-rays of Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie and That Obscure Object of Desire, both of which I already own.

Le Cercle Rouge is probably on its way as well, although I already pre-ordered the UK 4K release.

Wasn't expecting a Buñuel set. A definite purchase as The Phantom of Liberty was my introduction to his work, and remains my favourite of those I've seen. Not a completist by any stretch, which I why I haven't imported the SC set.

I have been waiting for an A region release of Phantom but, yes, I have the other two already and I'd much preferred separate releases.

Let's hope Criterion can relicense Peeping Tom from Studio Canal.

I hope it wasn't a myth, but I'd read there was some footage cut before Twilight was released in cinemas. I remember watching it on VHS and loved it, one of the best films I'd seen from that decade. Sadly though, it's been very underappreciated. You don't hear it spoken about much (this forum is one of the few places I've seen it talked about).

Robert Benton is a terrific filmmaker and four of his best films ("Bad Company", "The Late Show", "Nobody's Fool" and "Twilight") are unavailable on BD. Now that Paramount is opening up their catalog a bit, let's hope that situation is rectified.

I watched this a couple of years ago before or on Thanksgiving because it appeared in a Thanksgiving movie list and I hadn't seen it.

While a bit slow and sleepy at times, I found much to like about it - especially Newman's performance.

I'm a fan of this too. But I've always been under the impression that it was not very well-liked in general by critics and audiences. Not sure why. I thought it was pretty good. I eventually caved in and got it on VUDU a few years ago when there was a $5 sale. Unfortunately, I don't think it's MA enabled. (I bought it before MA existed.)

May get the Bunuel set down the road, but there's nothing that I need to get Day 1. Happy for those who are excited for January's slate though.

Robert Benton didn't make many movies (only 11). Kramer vs. Kramer is one of the great Hollywood films, Bad Company, The Late Show, Nobody's Fool are all terrific too. Those scream for a beautiful blu-ray. Never saw his Twilight.

If anyone is anxious to see it, The Ascent is on the Criterion Channel in full HD glory.

Newman's performance is certainly the highlight, but it's the supporting cast that makes Nobody's Fool truly great. Ellen Chenoweth is Hollywood royalty and one of the great casting directors of our generation and she kills it with this film. Every role...perfect. Bruce Willis took a huge paycut...to play a smarmy a**hole and it's one of his best roles ever. Melanie Griffith as his loveless wife with the schoolgirl crush on Sully (the flashing scene ). Pruitt Taylor Vince as his neurotic best friend/drinking buddy. Dylan Walsh as the distant son. Margo Martindale as the cranky Iron Horse barkeep. Gene Saks as his one-legged lawyer. And then, there is the great Jessica Tandy as his former schoolteacher/now landlord and the one love of his life (not in that way). Oh, and let's not forget Philip Seymour Hoffman as the a**hole, punk cop with an axe to grind against Sully. God, I miss that guy...Anyways, Ellen probably cast the Toro snowblower as well. Maybe even the Dobermans. And, like you said, a Thanksgiving movie. I re-visit it every year around that time...streaming or DVD Somebody just give us the blu, or I will need to send The Wacker after you!!

I rented "Nobody's Fool" on VHS when I was about 10 ('97 or '98, so when porn was still fairly scarce) and the only thing I took away from it was Melanie Griffith's flashing scene. I watched it again when I was 18 or 19, only remembering it as the Melanie Griffith flashing movie, and discovered it was a damn good film as well.

Screwed that one up with Direct when I watched it last year. I just now guessed it was matrixed because I remember the DTS 2.0 track and knew that almost any American movie after 1977 (?) was released theatrically in six channel audio.

Sure enough, the back of the package says so too. So yeah, I definitely wouldn't just do Direct in every scenario. I'm glad at least Criterion appears to tell you what it really is.
I misremembered, I have mine set to Straight, which is apparently supposed to do everything correctly. The Dolby Surround mode wants to create a virtual Atmos track by the sound of it.
