Just watched the trailer for Smooth Talk and it looks like a classic 80s thriller so its worth it just for that. I like Parallax view but I don't feel the need to own it the rest are instantly skippable

I honestly don’t remember the last time they made a titles announcement that I was really excited about.

Parallax View is the only film I’ve even heard of.

...that’s becoming a trend.

People only get excited about movies they’ve heard of? I love the Criterion label to introduce me to new movies and different ones I wouldn’t normally heard of.

I'm thrilled that there are people out there who feel that way, don't get me wrong, but that's not me.

With their premium pricing, I don't look to Criterion to be introduced to films I don't know, it's too expensive and risky, I've been burned that way before.

I look to Criterion for five-star presentations of classic films I already know and love.

So yep, count me among those who only get excited about movies I've heard of.

Watching The Age of Innocence, part of my 460 dollar haul. That mucky, pixelated color banding in the reds, is it Criterion's fault or the limitations of Blu-ray?

Very obvious when you view the pics in fullscreen.

I remember Whit Stillman's Last Days of Disco and Metropolitan came out together in the same month as separate releases in 2012. They were later part of a trilogy box with Barcelona.

Wow, I didn't expect the February announcements to be released on Friday the 13th of all days, but I'll take em. As for the releases, this is one of the most unique and intriguing announcements in quite a while. Man Push Cart is my pick of the litter!

The lack of appreciation and gratitude for more of Ramin Bahranis seminal work being made available is disturbing. I understand that Americans haven't exactly been enthusiastic when it comes to works of social realism. The fact a lable of Criterions stature is bringing them to Blu is going to lift Bahranis profile, and give him a much wider audience outside of critical circles.

I hope we get them localised to here in Blighty.

And, hopefully, if they do well. Criterion will bring out their own release of 99 Homes.

Well done big C. Hats off.

We'll still be in lockdown! Further restrictions no entertainment to come from abroad

And that's an optimistic opinion.

I'm in the same boat as yourself. Can you recommend your favourite websites for researching films?

I haven't seen any of February's releases before. Smooth Talk looks interesting and I'd have to research the others. Will likely pass on The Parallax View, though; I've seen three Pakula films and wasn't a fan of any of them (and I couldn't even finish The Sterile Cuckoo).

I am very excited about The Parallax View. So glad that Paramount is getting titles released one way or another finally.

Speaking of these, was curious about WR recently, but have become too frightened to buy Criterion DVDs of older titles on the off chance they get upgraded.

On the plus side, WR seems to be currently unavailable, so maybe that's a good sign.

I did the same on Thursday night. Looked like the last copy in stock. Even though I wasn't really all that concerned, I have to admit I was getting a little nervous when the sales associate was having a hard time removing the spider wrap. It was taking quite a while, and he even had to move over to another register and try another removal tool. I was almost getting ready to say "Don't you just have a pair of heavy duty scissors?" Everything turned out OK in the end...

Maybe she isn't. Notice those are all still sitting up on the shelf, and perhaps have been since August!

I received 1984 and Portrait of a Lady on Fire from Amazon today. For some reason I thought 1984 was a digipak so I was surprised to receive the regular case, but after looking it up that's how it comes.

I think I'll be watching Portrait of a Lady on Fire this evening as I've been really looking forward to adding it to the collection.

Had a little extra cash to burn, and hit my Barnes & Noble yet again. I typically try to use these Criterion sales to upgrade titles I already own on DVD, but it's so hard to not want to add new ones. Half of these are upgrades, but a few are new additions:
