I'm indifferent to it. I can't say I like it overmuch, but I wouldn't say it's a disaster. The thing is, people buy Criterions either because (a) they love the movie, or (b) they love Criterions, or (c) both. I don't expect many people decide whether to purchase a particular Criterion release or not based on the cover art. Quite frankly, I don't think I've ever chosen to buy or not buy any BD (or DVD) based on the cover art.

Epic month for Criterion. I'm in for Nightmare Alley and Fast Times Day 1. I didn't think we ever get Nightmare Alley. That's one Fox title I can cross off the list and I was hoping for an improved version of Fast Times. Probably will also grab Merrily We Go to Hell.

^ Not especially, but if the camera moved a little more to the right, I could change my mind.

You mean to the left, so there's a tight focus on the dude doing the pelvic thrusting?

Any idea why Criterion is re-releasing the WCP films as standalones?

Nope, not the dude. Not that there's anything wrong with it.

I think for the fact that there was some criticism for diversity, it’s a way to highlight those specific films, and with the pandemic I think we had more upgrades/releases of standalone films from box sets than we normally would have because they don’t need to do any extra work manufacturing supplement content and the films had already been remastered when they were on DVD

I agree. It’s quite uninspired. It’s a stereotypical “I Love The 80s” design with the Vans shoes checkerboard pattern and pins. They should have just used the iconic original poster art:

in other news, Criterion signed a 20-film deal with Hungary's National Film Institute that includes films by Károly Makk, Zoltán Fábri, István Gaál, Márta Mészáros, as well as films such as The Witness, Stop Time, The Rebellion of Job, Psyché or the Criminal Expedition.
