Plus Criterion aren't really known for licensing out their commentaries!

So these DVDs feel justified haha. It feels weird as hell though buying DVDs in 2021!
I bought quite a few bds during the sale, but also bought the dvd of MINDING THE GAP. IMHO their DVDs are exceptionally good, and I have quite a few in my Criterion collection of 3-400 discs. No need to be apologetic there. Criterion excels in both formats. Enjoy! As they say.

Unless perhaps your 12:02pm is CT?
I was wondering about that after I posted. Yes, mine was 12:02pm Central. That makes a bit more sense.

Someone who got their order in closer to Noon - what approx range was the order -- much under 61000. I can't imagine 1000 orders made it through in those first 20 minutes as slow as the site was

I got my email confirmation 4 minutes after the sale started and my order number is in the 2059800s.

My order from the CC sale:

Unobstructed View

The only Blu-Ray I wasn't able to get was Crash! I literally went to CC an hour into the sale and it was already sold out.... I'm guessing everyone had the same idea and so Crash was the first item to sell out.

That make a bit more sense, so basically they took approx 1600 orders in the first 20 minutes and 7000+ in the 1st hour

I missed out on The Irishman, will get it during the next sale.

I did get a couple this time; Moonrise Kingdom, Fail Safe, Pierrot Le Fou & Le Petit Soldat.

how many people do you think were ordering at any time during the sale? and how quickly do. you think inventory can even be updated? this i would love to hear. .
Have you heard of computers/computer programming? The answer is immediately. Inventory can be updated immediately in real time. It’s not magic. It’s doable

Like when I tried to buy a PS5 and it was in stock when I added it to my cart but by the time I completed checkout it wasn’t available because someone completed their order first and they no longer had inventory.

I do kind of feel as though there should be some sort of update issued out to anyone who purchased during the sale.
Something like "We understand that the titles you ordered were in stock but have now moved to backorder. Please allow x amount of time for your order to be shipped."

I placed an order with only 1 backordered item showing, all the rest were in stock, now 7 out of the 9 titles are showing as backordered & I have no idea when they'll actually ship.
I get that there's been a massive amount of orders taken during the sale but surely they'd have had an inventory system that can update in real time. It updated as I was checking out to tell me Frances Ha was on backorder, never told me any of the other titles were backordered too.

Depends on the systems and how they're integrated.

Pretty obvious that Criterion isn't getting real time updates from their warehouse and back, so they go through transactions that, according to the information they have at that moment, says can be completely fulfilled. Then, ten minutes later, they discover that while they sold 100 copies at the website, the warehouse is pinging back to them that there are only 80 to send. The final 20 get backordered.

Is it a good system? No. Could it be better? Yes. Is it probably the sort of thing that happened? Most likely. Is it surprising that a boutique home video label doesn't have the kind of inventory management system that Wal-Mart and Target do? Not in the least.

The important thing is that they are going to fulfill the orders that end up backordered at the sales price. Amazon has kind of ruined us, to a certain extent, for smaller retailers.

This Is something a programming student in a high school class could do though. You don’t need to be Walmart or target to have a competent system. And it should actually be easier because they are a small boutique label. My orders were fine, I know people will still get their discs, but it’s still surprising to me that this would happen

So, you're saying that they hired substandard vendors to handle their inventory?

That sounds about right.

I doubt they'll change though, because the CEO of the vendor is probably a close friend of Jon Mulvaney and it works most of the time. Also the vendor is making promises to be better next time. Swearsies.

Great so I owe $80 in customs between my 2 Criterion orders. Why do I always manage to owe customs when getting stuff shipped via DHL?

That brings each title to $36. So this sale was f*cking pointless.

Who said walmart or target have competent systems? They have stock inconsistencies regularly. I actually think "regularly" is putting it lightly.
