Def into the two upgrades, but for the first time in maybe a decade I'm 0/4 on the new releases.

EDIT: Also, gotta say, love how the Human Condition set is 60 list for the blu versus the 80 list for the DVD.

Well, I'm going to shut up a bit for new Japanese releases from Criterion as they announced my most wanted upgrade title period.

The Human Condition trilogy films are truly breathtaking and will leave you exhausted, but you will not regret the experience.

I'm pretty much only getting "The Human Condition".

I already have the Eureka/Masters of Cinema release of "Pickup on South Street".

Really not interested in any of the rest.

May AND June have mostly been disappointing months for me with them.

Oh well, anyone who's excited about any of those, please enjoy!

I was thinking this might take a while longer but then I've not kept up with it.
now should I wait for the BD or actually watch my DVD set. I do hope one day I'd be Asian complete but that might never come.

good news regardless

Nice to see some pretty diverse films this time around. Can't go wrong with Fuller, Kobayashi, and the lgbtq films all sound really interesting.

Happy to see Pariah announced. I know it was a title mentioned when Criterion was called out for their lack of Black directors in their collection. I believe this may be the first Focus Features title outside of anything from Wes Anderson that Criterion has licensed, but I could be wrong.

I have the Eureka edition of Pickup on South Street (which I believe came from a 4K scan as well - I assume it's the same master Criterion is using). Not sure if I'll upgrade that or not but nice that they're finally putting out a blu-ray edition.

Likely same but I wonder if Criterion will up the contrast. I have the Eureka and it feels a bit overly bright and flat.

Excited about the upgrades and Pariah certainly sounds interesting, something I'll most likely pick up. Unfortunately I don't really much go for documentaries, which rest of the slate is. Stuff I would be more likely to check out on the Criterion Channel than purchase on disc. But that's just personal preference. I already have Arrow's Human Condition and only just recently picked up Eureka's Pickup, though, so I'll have to be sold on the idea of double dipping any time soon. Will have to examine the special features. Overall, though, I think Criterion's slate for 2021 has been pretty strong, with some great titles in the coming months.

I imagine it will just be the really big ones. So I'm wondering if Olympia will get its own release or not. There is precedence with it getting a laserdisc from Criterion, but who knows? Would save me from spending a lot on the set.

Happy to see Pariah, even more happy June is out of the way so we can get to the real heavy hitters in July.

I will be picking up Pariah but I wish Criterion could get the rights to Mudbound as well.

The DVD was edited due to the cost of music rights, however in the interim, "Happy Birthday" no longer has a giant songwriter cost attached because it's public domain after a big lawsuit. Supposedly, that's enough to make the difference to pay for the rest of the music, but at this point, that might have just been a rumor.

The Man Who Wasn't There should be coming, and Topsy Turvy is Focus (through October Films)

A good time for Black cinema with this and Marlon Riggs

I think it will just be the big ones too. Of course Tokyo Olympiad had precedence with being a DVD title, and having Kon Ichikawa's name attached.

I understand the history with the laserdisc but in the year 2021 I don't think the female filmmakers we should be celebrating should be actual Nazis.

Yeah I agree, shadows can be lacking in places. And this is noir. I'm curious to see how Criterion's turns out.
