I have the region-A/B Optimum combo-edition. That keeps me happy in the meantime (though it's shit for extras).

Idiots.
“Woke sheet”? What exactly are you referring to? The Melvin Van Peebles set?

They probably mean everything that isn't made by a White Cisgender Male American. Woppet seems to have a problem with WAC, as well, but that seems to be limited to ranting against movies they don't think are worthwhile in general, not just ones with a socio-political bent they don't like.

Deep Cover, Bringing Up Baby, Pickup On South Street, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, and Defending Your Life are "woke sheet"? Love how you claim to know their sales figures and profit loss as well. When I dislike something as much as you do, I just move on and away.

Might be late to the party here but did anybody else notice the Trilogia de Guillermo Del Toro blu ray set is OOP now? The dvd and all of the individual releases are all still in print.

Yeah, it's been OOP since last Summer, perhaps longer. It's possibly due to how unique the packaging is why they wouldn't manufacture new copies.

It's also laughable because it's clear what the poster's point is and it's complaining over 3-5 releases out of the 40 released/announced so far for this year. We still have at least 15-20 more to go for the rest of the year. On top of all the great stuff we're getting from other labels.

Stupid question, but can someone confirm this for me:

The World of Wong Kar Wai boxset should be at $100 during the B&N sale, right? Since MSRP is $200? Or does box set sale pricing work differently. I've bought a few but I forget.

50% off MSRP, so $100 on all items -- DVD, BD, Boxsets, etc.

For B&N -- all items that are available to ship (no backorders or Out Of Stock itmes) can be ordered. The only exceptions I can remember were some titles that were basically OOP -- some 1st releases like the BD/DVD combos that had been replaced by single format items and even those were 50% off in-store.

Preorders for those itmes officially releasing before the end date of the sale have always been 50% on Day 1 of the sale. Items releasing after that end date have almost never been allowed online (a couple sales had exception esp the first day) and some managers have allowed customers to preorder anything at 50% off though most have not -- I expect this has been less common since the new owners took over

By unique do you mean fragile? I've had 3 copies, all split down the seams of the top part of the box, just had to give up and live with it (being in the UK so always at the mercy of international post!)
Also might not have been the biggest seller given the films were all available individually before it came out so another run might have not had much of a financial incentive. I do remember GDT describing it as limited edition when it first came out and being confused as it wasn't labelled as such, so perhaps it was always a bit of an indulgence that they never planned to continue.

If Deep Cover and Watermelon Man are part of the "woke sheet" then I'd rather have them.

Yeah, the nerve of Criterion releasing "woke" stuff from 50 years ago that they literally released on laserdisc a quarter century ago because it was already legendary, just to jump on that woke bandwagon.

Hoooo boy. It takes all comers.

(Though honestly, I would love to see the Three-Quarters Musketeers. When did that come out?)

Target are having a B2G1 sale, and there are quite a few Criterion titles at good prices. Some could be purchased for an average price of $15 per title. You can save more if you have a redcard too of course.

Thanks for posting this! I was able to snag three titles that I planned on purchasing for the July B&N Sale:

Recently bought one of my Criterion grails. Finally found a decent price (still way too much), and pulled the trigger. Beautiful book. Love the insight into the cover-designing process and especially the alternate, unused covers.

Awesome. How much did you pay for it? I had a chance to buy a used copy for around $60 before it went out of print but I passed. I am kicking myself now for not pulling the trigger.

I got it for $180, which is more than I like to spend on a book but I still consider myself lucky considering how much it's listed for online (Amazon and eBay listings are all like $400+). Couldn't pass at that price.
