Yeah, I imagine Criterion is not going to bother releasing The Lady from Shanghai again. I need to grab the Indicator version myself, but its hasn't been a priority since I already have the original Mill Creek version, which has cut for it to me so far. Maybe, I'll grab it during their next sale.

This is probably a silly question, but does Criterion ever upgrade blu-rays? Meaning a previously issued blu released with an upgraded 4k scan from the negative?
I imagine not. There's so many DVDs that haven't even been given a Blu yet for the first time. |

One episode at a time over 4 days I finished watching Christ Stopped at Eboli, which is a decent sentimental look at an anti-fascist political exilee (played with wonderful warmth by Gian Maria Volonte) getting in touch with the life of the common people of the rural south in Italy. The image quality is highly variable in this one. Ep1 has some questionable contrast where blacks appear almost as solid blocks of color, Eps 2&3 look a good deal better, but Ep 4 is the worst, with most non-day sequences struggling to qualify as HD. Either the source master was flawed to begin with, or some cheapskate at Criterion decided to save a few bucks on authoring by cramming 4 hours of a mini-series plus another 90min of extras on a single disc.

Gonna catch a copy of Memories of Murder. I've been spending way too much money lately and don't have much left to spare for Criterion sadly (Since I started getting Arrow Video titles and also pre-ordering the Blood for Dracula/Flesh for Frankenstein 4K UHDs).

I'd be down for a Chinatown release (I heard there was a new restoration as the Austin Film Society trailer mentioned from 2 years ago). Don't think it's going to happen though but found out about it's upcoming appearance on the Criterion Channel for next month. Also my favorite film, even though it's universally well-known so Criterion probably wouldn't release it unless if they wanted to make some money like they did with Silence of the Lambs, popular film but can easily make a lot of money because many people know about it in the first place.
