I was thinking along those lines too. I had forgotten Mank, and was thinking The Other Side of the Wind, but Mank would be the more likely of the two.

I don't The Other Side of the Wind is happening until Netflix feels they've made a profit on it. However they calculate that via streaming. I can't think of any other reason to be sitting on it this long. Over three years now.

I don't think it's Netflix. I think it's the cast of characters involved in Welles' legacy. Things tend to move at a glacial pace.

I haven't seen Andrei Rublev, but I've seen Marketa Lazarova (which I loved) and Bondarchuk's War and Peace (which I liked). I'm also a huge fan of Wake in Fright and enjoyed Walkabout a lot. All of these feature some instances of animal cruelty (whether done for the sake of the film or showing footage from real hunts), but I could deal with it every time. In this film it feels particularly vile because it's all done very deliberately for the sake of a rather flat and pompous metaphor.

Yeah, I have a very low tolerance for animal cruelty in films. The only way I’ll tolerate it if it’s capturing some part of real human experience, like the slaughterhouse in Touki Bouki. I can even deal with the staged slaughter in Apocalypse Now because it’s essentially representing something that was normal behavior of a local people. But if you’re just hurting an animal for your cinematic idea? Count me out.

I've been away from the forum for a few days and come back to discover Criterion is going to release a 4K blu-ray!

I would of course love a new title and not an upgrade for their first 4K release!

But if I had to guess, it would be a major film.

It would be something from Scorsese, Lynch, Kubrick, or Coppola.

A user by the name of yoloswegmaster on the Criterion Forum said they got confirmation that Criterion will be releasing their first 4K and one of the forum admins looked at what they sent in pm and replied in the thread that it looks legit.

If it is Citizen Kane it'll be weird to have the first ever Criterion release's spine be in the thousands because they reset the spine numbers when they went to DVD.
