If any announcement highlights the need for UHD releases as a way for Criterion to differentiate themselves in 2021 it's Uncut Gems.

I told myself I wouldn't do blu-to-blu upgrades anymore just because of Criterion if there was already a very good recent bluray release (like Pariah, Love & Basketball, etc), but I might have to make an exception for Uncut Gems...

Great month. Uncut Gems is a curious choice, but since I never picked up the original release, I'll probably get this one. Was the original release lacking in some way?

How is it a cash grab when it's stacked with extras compared to the mostly barebones Lionsgate release? It also offers an atmos track, which the previous BD lacked. Maybe your definition of cash grab differs from mine, but there's clearly a lot here than just them re-releasing a BD for the sake of it.

Uncut Gems is the first A24 film in the collection, correct? I wonder if this will pave the way for more A24 in the collection, though the features have to be pretty great to justify A24 titles since they all have nice blurays already.

I’m just gonna say it…thought for a sec Uncut Gems was gonna be the first 4K release and I wouldn’t have been mad haha.

Doesn’t matter though still grabbing it! A nice month I must say but what’s with Ratcatcher and Onibaba having DVD only extras? And some Blu-ray only for that matter.
