Well I'm glad you got rid of her. I assume you moved on t one who works at Nikkatsu.

Does anyone know if Criterion sends out replacements for damaged orders from Barnes and Noble or do they charge $5? I guess free replacements might be exclusive to orders directly from their site?

They replaced my All About Eve case from Amazon. That might have been a special case, because of the case design, but I think it's probably worth a shot to email John Mulvaney.

There was a time years ago when I thought that it was such a magical film. Because of the mixed reviews I never got the Blu and kind of forgot about it.

I tried to find comparison screen captures and found http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/Review...20paradise.htm

Taken from the review: “Having seen the original Criterion DVD, perhaps, a dozen times - Pathé’s 2011 restoration of the film took some getting used to. While there are significantly fewer artefacts than either of the DVD renderings - the 1080P image leans to a smoky-soft contrast, unpleasantly waxier, appearance. It is actually quite consistent and there is some subtle layering that advances beyond SD. Generally, there is quite a bit more information visible on the right edge, some on the left and a shade less on the bottom. Being brighter there is more detail. I eventually gave-in to the higher resolution but it's a shame it is so smeary.”

The last time I contacted them which was the middle of last year, they told me that they "typically only send free packaging replacements for purchases made directly from Criterion.com." Why don't you try exchanging at Barnes and Noble since you bought it from them.

They don't accept opened items according to their policy. I just got off the phone with them though, they sent a request to be approved for me to send it back opened so I can get a new replacement. There was no way I could've see the latches of the case was messed up, the degassing substance, and the scratched discs inside.

Must be struggling with quality control, they've been through hell with the pandemic going on. This is the first time I received a Criterion case that is full of the gassy substance. I've been getting them from 4K cases too, really nasty.

I would take a picture, but I already cleaned it off the case. Remnants of it are still there though, they will come back in months. It's like chemical remains from the warehouse.

Hip Hop Hooray!

My 2nd trip to B&N during this 50% off sale.

Got 2 more titles this time around (last time just bought Ghost Dog).

Really glad they had Crash. Seems like its always a hot seller.

Can't wait to watch Deep Cover. Fishburne and Goldblum are cool cats.

I'm all about the 90s.

I wish Criterion would pick up David and Lisa (1962). I just got my Scorpion Releasing Blu-ray in and the PQ needs work. And it's bare ones except for an interview with Keir Dullea. Not even inside art. I wouldn't mind it so much if the transfer was top notch but it's definitely not. I asked Kino and they're not interested. If anyone from Criterion is lurking, here's a title.

As for the Criterion sale, I've picked up 5 I believe.

According to their policy, they allow exchanges for opened media if the original item is defective and you are exchanging it for the same item. That should apply to you.

Some people probably think you're crazy, but I know EXACTLY what you're talking about, lol.

I get that weird, greasy substance inside of blu-ray cases that come in the mail probably most of the time. I think it happens most on used blu-rays that I buy, but I've also seen it in new blu-rays as well.

What even is that stuff? is it some kind of condensation? you can't really fully wipe it out with just a cloth or something, you gotta full on rinse it under the sink to really get it all off.

I saw David and Lisa for the first time a few months ago on Criterion Channel, so they are definitely aware of the film, for what it's worth. And yeah, I agree that it would be a great choice for the collection.

By the way, Criterion does take title suggestions through an official e-mail account, so if you really want them to listen to your idea, it would be more effective to contact them there, rather than to just hope someone here relays your thought to the parties concerned.

It's always been a bit hit or miss. There was a period when overseas customers with established B&N online accounts could order, but new or "guest" customers couldn't. Some countries would be available one sale, but not the other. If I remember, it was also suggested that Criterion asked B&N not to ship outside the US, but there was no real evidence. You probably saw that the B&N site now just states: We're sorry, international shipping is currently unavailable for the 50% Off Criterion Collection Sale. Which would seem to leave the door open. Maybe our fellow member and sale guru hariseldon knows more?

The B&N site has always been terrible. It's mostly why I gave up membership.

Strange how some companies or employees are ashamed of their product. Similiar to how Paramount has always been reported to be ashamed of their Friday the 13th series.
We always hear how this is a business, not a charity, so why be ashamed of what's paying the bills?

I grabbed the 100 Years of Olympic Films set. The Amazon price is very low right now and i had quite a few reward points to use.
