I picked up four:

STREETWISE/TINY
PARALLAX VIEW
NIGHTMARE ALLEY
CRASH Cronenberg

Guess I was looking for "edgy" films this time around.

Thanks for the information. It's also worth noting that Sweet Sweetback's Badass Song and Ratcatcher have pages on Janus now.

All were must haves.

I used to spend a fortune on past sales, buying a dozen titles, if not more (maybe 2 dozen blu-rays), but that's when I was able to stack all these B&N coupons and got some releases for $14 each including taxes. Now even with a membership, I don't get 10% off anymore, so its about $22 each with taxes. Plus I've amassed so many Criterion titles (got nearly 300 now - 299 spine numbers to be precise), I'm a bit burnt out.

Here's my collection for those who want to check it out: https://www.criterion.com/collection/11738
I picked up five this time:

Breathless
Following
The Graduate
All That Jazz
La Piscine

I wanted to get Midnight Cowboy but it wasn't in my local stores. I did, however, order it from Amazon earlier today, as it was $19.99 (seems a lot of Criterion are still half price, even though the B&N event is over).

Like you, I used to buy a lot more (I think 26 in one sale was my "record"). I didn't obsess over the coupons; I'd stack them when I could, but never took refusals personally like some people used to.

I just got fed up with the B&N website, and the mothballing of the media departments - so gave up membership. The thing I like about Criterion is that titles rarely go OOP, so one can wait for the Flash Sales to stock up, and earn that $50 coupon.

I'm well north of 200 titles now. There are quite a few boutique labels I follow and buy from routinely, but there's still nothing like a Criterion sale to rouse the collector in me...

What's the significance of these Janus announcements? We know Sweetback is coming to Criterion in the Van Peebles box.

Mainly about the rights Janus has obtained.

If the film undergoes a new restoration for theatrical distribution, it’s usually a good sign it’s coming to BD from Criterion.

I would be nice to see some more stand-alone Bergman releases.

Nice, I got 3 of those titles already. All That Jazz is one brilliant film. If you want a double "dance" feature, play that and then Pina afterwards. Totally different films (one is a drama, the other a documentary) but both have extraordinary choreography.

I’m guessing they didn’t sell all that well compared to the box set, but I agree.

The other night I watched Deep Cover and some of the music reminded me of music I heard in Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai. I am going to watch Do the Right Thing for my next film night as I've been in an African American director phase as of late.

I wish there was more Spike Lee in the collection! I would vote for these 5 Spike Lee films for Criterion blu-rays:

Mo' Better Blues
Crooklyn
Clockers
He Got Game
25th Hour

I know Kino Lorber released 3 of those titles above in 2020, but the Kino releases are bereft of supplements. Plus the Clockers release has poor video quality too. These could use the Criterion treatment.

Yeah, I already have a bunch of the previous standalone releases and I'm not interested in the set. If they'd put out Hour of the Wolf and Passion of Anna, that'd do me much happiness.

In Kino's defense, they postponed the release of their Spike Lee titles several times because he promised he would record commentaries for them, but they eventually gave up on waiting for Lee and ultimately decided to go ahead without his involvement.

This.

I want The Passion of Anna and After the Rehearsal so much, but I'm not getting that humongous boxset just for two movies (I own several standalone releases already).

It looks like someone at Scanavo or Criterion, whoever made the cases for The Human Condition screwed up. The case is upside down and the insert holder is on the opposite side. If you have Human Condition and opened it for the first time, you'll notice that the push buttons are upside down.

I bought
PARALLAX VIEW
NIGHTMARE ALLEY
CRASH Cronenberg
and Fritz Lang's M, so we are partners in edginess.

And BRINGING UP BABY, so slightly less edgy.

Are you sure it isn't just the buttons that are upside down and not the whole case? Like, there are still two discs on the right and one on the left, no? And the booklet clips are on the right as well, correct?

PUSH letters are upside down and the case numbers are upside down as well. The case numbers are usually at the bottom, but this time they're at the top. The booklet clips are on the right now when they're usually on the left.

I think it could be just your copy then, or a small batch, as I saw an unboxing and the booklet clips were on the left side of the case as usual.
