Love ya, Criterion, but how in the world did this happen? Imagine if a Lynch release had gotten this sloppy treatment.
At least they acknowledge it. Another label recently had a similar screwup and their rep said “Take it or leave it.”

Very true. Kudos to Criterion for acknowledging and addressing the problem.

I ordered the Citizen Kane UHD/Blu-ray from Deep Discount back in August, and they shipped my copy of it the other day—however, because they shipped it Media Mail (which I find loathsome—it's scantly less expensive than First Class, and can literally take over a week to arrive), I am not going to get it in time for the Thanksgiving weekend, which is when I have some time off and planned to sit down and pore through the discs.

I ended up ordering a second copy from my B&N this morning for in-store-pickup and just figured I'd sell the other one, but later got the email from the store that they were pulling them from the shelves. I ended up checking on Amazon this evening, and was able to order one in the nick of time for one-day delivery (and for cheaper than what I paid at Deep Discount), so I should have a copy by tomorrow. I am considering holding onto both copies and keeping one sealed just for oddity's sake—the other, I will mail the disc to Criterion for the replacement.

Next title batch announcement is on December 15th, for March. They haven't said that 4K UHD titles will be in every batch though (there wasn't one for February), so it's not a set thing.

They had the big announcement at the beginning to introduce the format, but every 4K UHD so far has been announced along with that month's batch as usual.

When they do I’m hoping for any of the Malick films; more Powell and Pressburger, and a couple of specific titles:
Walkabout
Picnic at Hanging Rock

The last two I recently revisited and kept thinking how beautiful they’d look as 4K upgrades.

Oh, and bring back The Third Man as a UHD!

I'd happily buy a Third Man UHD with the latest StudioCanal restoration, but without the screwed up audio mix that SC put on the Blu-ray

The image on the Second Sight Blu ray of Walkabout from last year is such a monster upgrade over the Criterion, that it looks 4K in comparison.

No hyperbole.

I just got my copy of that today. Second Sight sent it in a huge box in relation to the size of the set itself. I tried getting it before but couldn’t find it at a decent price and finally had the bright idea 💡 of checking Second Sight themselves. Fast shipping time too. Really looking forward to seeing this edition.

Is the bitrate higher on the new Criterion BD of Uncut Gems than the Lionsgate? I’m just curious

I thought that breaking the disc in half is only if you are going to send a photo instead of mailing it.

Originally, you could mail it in however you wanted, broken or in good condition (broken would save you a few stamps by putting it in a regular envelope).

Then, they changed it to being able to break it and send a picture for proof instead of sending it in.

The end result is the same.

you're really not kidding. The criterion blu looks just like dvd quality

Side note:

Someone on reddit was trying to figure out the cheapest/lightest way to send the disc back for a replacement before Criterion updated the program so that you could just take a picture. They refused to break the disc in half because they think it would weigh more for the two halves to be stacked on top of each other versus having it unbroken and one flat piece...

100 lbs of gold or a 100 lbs of feathers I guess.
