So this was a Fox pickup from before the sale to Disney? I was wondering where the heck this came from I hope Criterion acquired more Fox titles, like Von Ryan's Express.

So, if I am not mistaken, the last time Criterion released a Kurosawa on blu ray was Dreams in November 2016. That was 5 years ago. What is happening here? At one time I figured it was because they were developing a big complete set but with Ran now out on 4k by Lionsgate here and Studio canal in the UK, it seems unlikely. In those 5 years they could have easily released at least 5 more Kurosawa since...

I have to assume Criterion have had Phoenix for years considering Twilight Time denied having it as far back as 2016.

Ah I remember when poster Cinephileconnoisseur was arguing last month that Criterion would only release about 7 UHDs a year and the next batch of announced titles wouldn't be till towards the end of 2022. Lol

Excellent titles all around. Wow, what a strong month the March announcements are. Usually March is a big month if I'm not mistaken from years past. I love the 4K upgrade of Le Cercle Rouge and damn, a 4K of The Last Waltz too. Awesome sauce. I also like the other titles too esp. The Flight of the Phoenix. There's something for everyone for the March releases!

No, they should release something that isn't on Blu yet, like Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore or After Hours.

I was also wondering why the US hadn't seen a Blu-ray upgrade of this magnificent film. Had to import the UK release.

I'm hoping Bringing Out the Dead skips straight to a 4k UHD when it finally gets a release (no matter which company releases it).

Yeah, it's really odd. Kurosawa was their bread and butter at one point and we would get a release every so often. Most have assumed it was because a boxset was being worked on, but who knows.

A ton of his films have HD scans, so not sure what the deal is.

I'm with you there. After Hours seem long overdue and it seems pretty clear that they have it. Would have been nice to get this before another rerelease.

An excellent month with 2 UHDs. Rigatoni predicted this slate, I'm sure (Along with investing in Bitcoin 10 years ago and having Tom Brady #1 in 2000).

He actually said we would be getting a Martin Scorsese 4K soon as well as Le Cercle Rogue upgrade soon as well.

Weak month for me. Dang it I gotta hear people talk about After Hours for another month. And if we’re going with concert films, might as well throw in Talking Heads

Good titles but none I'd add to my collection, save for Le Cercle Rouge and I hope this release is better than Studio Canal's UHD.

The email didn't say it was a UHD, and the cover art doesn't look any different between the UHDs and the regular Blus, so I had no idea Last Waltz was 4K until this post.

That seems like a poor job from Criterion, TBH.

I can't imagine a Scorsese two months in a row, so I'd say it's even MORE months. . .

They might not have mentioned it in the email but you easily could have went on the website and see that a 4K version is listed.

You would have thought that there would be more fanfare for every 4k release. Thats the point of his comment.

People were asking CC when 4k discs were coming for years. You would have thought that they would make it unmissable, esp since not every new release has a 4k counterpart
