I’d be in for all of these as well.

Wouldn’t Warners have it since it’s a RKO title? I can never keep on top of who has the rights to these older studio titles.

Correct, the DVD came from WAC.

This is also how I feel about a title as important as Miracle in Milan not getting a UHD release. I can only hope that Arrow steps up to the plate and gives the film the 4K UHD treatment it deserves, assuming they still have at least the UK rights to the title.

It certainly looks like it's from a dated master, but one that looks quite good. If this was the same master TT had access to, it's pretty weird they thought it to not be good enough, they certainly released films with much rougher looking transfers.

For my tastes this is the best Criterion month in a long time.

I'm genuinely interested in all of the April titles especially 'Round Midnight and the Walker upgrade. The Nigerian film looks quite interesting as well. I already have For All Mankind on blu-ray so I'll pass on that. Nice to see the old Tashlin film and another De Sica film come to Criterion too. This is overall a very "thorough" month!

2022 Criterion stuff that I look forward to owning:

Miller's Crossing
The Last Waltz
Walker

Everything else is stuff that I haven't seen yet or not really my thing. I'm actually like Arrow's lineup for 2021 more in my opinion.

Based on those three, you should try Festen if you haven’t seen it, might surprise you.

Haven't seen any of these, though the two that intrigue me the most are The Girl Can't Help It and Miracle in Milan. Will probably pick up those two.

If my memory is correct, there is a fairly new 4K restoration of Seventh Heaven that you would think would be screaming Criterion bait. Agree with you on The Iron Horse and Drums Along the Mohawk. I have to admit that I've never seen it The Girl Can't Help It, but I'm intrigued. Mr. Tashlin is now a part of the Criterion Collection.

OMG, guys. The Film Forum just posted their newest schedule, and they're going to have a 4-week program on Toshiro Mifune ..with all 16 of his collaborations with Kurosawa, and many others. I'm going to have to take out a loan

Jeez, jump to conclusions much? I don’t feel offended by your remarks, but I think you owe Joe Six-pack an apology.

First, I have some hearing loss, so I usually watch all movies with subtitles on. Second, I never said that I don’t enjoy foreign-language films. I have limited time, money and shelf space, so I mostly limit my collection to English language films. It’s the same reason I haven’t gone region-free. Third, I do more than consider foreign-language films, I watch them, but via streaming services. I would say that about half the films that I watch on the Criterion Channel are foreign-language. In fact, that was my main reason for subscribing — to be able to watch those movies without owning them.

Anyway, I’ve blathered on enough. Have a great day.

I really like Miracle in Milan. It may sound like a contradiction, but this movie manages to combine italian neorealism with whimsical fantasy. It definitely feels "Chaplinesque", in the sense that easily goes back and forth from drama to comedy to social commentary to tearjerker scenes to fantasy... I'm definitely very happy about this particular release.

Well, I hope you like it.

I saw Miracle in Milan on TV many years ago, and I was thinking "well, I've never heard of this movie, but it was directed by Vittorio De Sica, so let's give it a try".

And there I was, expecting something like Shoeshine, or Bicycle Thieves or Umberto D. And yes, the characters were there: really poor people struggling against a greedy landowner in Italy, but the tone of this movie is really, really different from those other De Sica films, I really liked it because it moved me just like those movies, but it also made me smile.

Great month of announcements! I am so happy about 'Round Midnight. There was speculation it was coming, but I was not expecting it for a while. Also, great to see Miracle in Milan on the fast track.
