No wonder it was a commercial disaster.

Round Midnight is currently $21.99 at Target. If you want at release and don't want to wait for B&N sale, I'd suggest jumping on it. Who knows how long it'll be at this price?

Do we think The Lusty Men is coming, on account of the Warner Archive DVD is out of print and it doesn't seem to be due to a rights issue (since it's available on the Criterion Channel)?

Definitely a price mistake. They accidently priced it the same as the DVD.

Haha. That was my initial reaction, but after going through all the stages of grief I finally hit acceptance. At this point, I'm going to guess it's coming out in October. Either way, I'm just going to just try and not expect it so this way I'm not setting myself up for disappointment.

The Australian label Umbrella is releasing a double bill of In the Realm of the Senses and Empire of Passion in March. Has there been any whispers of a Criterion upgrade of the latter? Because the only previous Blu-Ray releases of it I can find are all from 2011. I would HOPE Umbrella wouldn't use a transfer THAT old, but... <shrug>

I'm going to take a guess and say the next flash sale will be some time in March once the corrected A Hard Day's Night UHD is available.

Past Feb/Mar sale dates. Thank you to Hariseldon.

Jean Eustache's films are getting restored and are getting theatrical rereleases. Hopefully Blu's follow. I had almost written off, The M*ther And The Wh*re, from getting a restoration and a blu. This is exciting!

Still available at Screen Archives Entertainment.

The 20th Century Fox release of Sunrise is good enough. Also, there is the region free UK Eureka release with better cover design, 20-page booklet and additional 40-min doc on Murnau's lost film 4 Devils.

The Eureka release of Drunken Master is actually region free.

Sunrise was also released on the OOP Coffret F.W. Murnau, a French release from Carlotta which was a double feature with City Girl that added an hour’s worth English friendly extras on the latter, City Girl the Essence of America and Murnau and the Advent of Talkies.

Is anyone with a 4K player having trouble with the resume play feature not working on their Criterion discs?

Mine keep going back to the main menu when I want to finish a film I started the night before.

...is it a 4K thing?

I find it varies by disc. On my 4K player some resume, others don't.

Perhaps it is based on when the disc was authored?

I've never really used the "resume" feature, but it's sort of a pain in the butt. Once I've watched a disc, every time I watch it again, the first thing that pops up is a window asking if I want to resume play. Whether I say yes or no it just brings me to the main menu. I don't know if that's because I had already finished watching the movie or not. This only happens with Criterion discs. And it doesn't matter if the disc hasn't been in the player for months, or even years.

Having no issues with my low-end Sony 4k player. Kane, The Red Shoes and Uncut Gems all resume fine.

Same here. There seem to be some distributors where resume almost never works for me (Shout Factory, etc.).

Anyone watch Faya Dayi yet? I recently watched it over a couple nights via The Criterion Channel. It's a pretty mesmerizing film, and easily one of the most beautifully shot B&W movies I've seen in some time too. It has a fairly loose narrative, and is sort of a hybrid between an actual film, and a documentary. Along with its exquisite visuals, a lot of the dialogue is really poetic and reflective. I'd say the fim requires some patience, as not a lot really happens in it. I took my time, and only watched it when I was in the mood for that kind of experience, but it was well worth it.

I watched a bit and liked what I saw. It was for a film class my girlfriend was taking and I wasn't in the mood to watch the whole thing. I wanna finish it. Wasn't paying attention and didn't know it was on Criterion Channel, so will watch it in full.

Hardcore (1979) is another title that I would like to see Criterion pick up.

Thanks for the info. I was unaware that Penda's Fen got a release by Severin. I would probably track down the UK Eureka release of Sunrise considering that the US Blu-ray is out of print.

I really hope Volver gets a release this year. It's my favorite Almodóvar!
