I say that because I was under the impression most if not all the blu-ray releases are OOP (at least in the UK) and there hasn't been any updates/new releases.

Had not seen the gnocchi stuff. Although as you say not a reliable source, I won't lie, you've made me a tiny bit excited/hopeful.

If Criterion could release the most complete version available to them it'd be amazing.

fettuccine was just making shit up, whether they said something was happening or not has no bearing on anything.

Is it safe to say no flash sale this week? Not sure how far in advance they normally announce those.

Once Upon a Time in America is with Fox at the moment, which means Disney . Fox loses their distribution of Regency titles in May though, and I don't think there's any word on who will take over distribution, or whether Disney/Fox will renew their deal.

edit: It looks like Disney extended a deal with New Regency

I certainly wouldn't say it'd be half the price. Getting both during a sale price, the difference would probably be less than $10 at most.

And a WAC release would almost certainly be light on extras. I mean, let's look at Bringing Up Baby for instance, it's pretty stacked:

Quote:
Trailer - a vintage trailer for Bringing Up Baby. In English, not subtitled. (3 min, 1080i).

Scott Eyman - this exclusive new video essay was created by Scott Eyman, author of Cary Grant: A Brilliant Disguise. It focuses on Cary Grant's performing style and legacy. In English, not subtitled. (19 min, 1080p).
John Bailey - in this new program, cinematographer John Bailey discusses the work and style of cinematographer Russell Metty as well as the composition of key sequences from Bringing Up Baby. In English, not subtitled. (12 min, 1080p).

Craig Barron - in this new program, film historian Craig Barron discusses the career of visual effects artist Linwood Dunn as well as his contribution to Bringing Up Baby. In English, not subtitled. (13 min, 1080p).

Selected-Scene Commentary - in this new program, costume historian Shelly Foote discusses the career of designer Howard Greer and his contribution to Bringing Up Baby. In English, not subtitled. (23 min, 1080p).

1. Early career and design philosophy
2. Couture business and the movies
3. Costumes and comedies
4. Later Career

Howard Hawks: A Hell of a Good Life - in this archival documentary, Howard Hawks discusses his career with filmmaker Hans-Christoph Blumenberg. The documentary uses footage from a lengthy interview that was conducted at the director's home in Palm Springs, California, in November 1977. In English, not subtitled. (57 min, 1080i).

Cary Grant - this archival interview with Cary Grant was recorded on October 6, 1969, after a screening of Bringing Up Baby as part of a Hollywood in the Thirties film series presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The actor discusses his career and involvement with the film. In English, not subtitled. (36 min, 1080p).

Howard Hawks and Peter Bogdanovich - presented here is an excerpt from a conversation between Howard Hawks and Peter Bogdanovich that was recorded in Palm Springs, California, in 1972. The conception of Bringing Up Baby is addressed in great detail. In English, not subtitled. (15 min, 1080p).

Commentary - this archival audio commentary was recorded by Peter Bogdanovich in 2005.

Booklet - an illustrated booklet featuring an essay by critic Sheila O'Malley and the 1937 short story by Hagar Wilde on which Bringing Up Baby is based, as well as technical credits.
And there is bigger possibility (albeit still small) that Criterion could do a 4K release of it, which we know won't happen if WAC released it.

Anything Japanese at this point. Be it Cure or Drive My Car. Last Japanese title we got was in October so October to May is a pretty lengthy period without a Japanese title.

Outside of the Japanese titles, hopefully we finally get Mr. Klein or Mank. Pat Garrett would also be nice. Would would be really amazing would be Hardboiled and the Killer.

$18 vs $9 for me, at least in the last year or so.

You're right, the extras would be scant, but I'd take a better presentation of the film over bountiful extras even if they were priced identically.

So, pretty much half the price, if Criterions can be gotten at 20 dollars during the 50 percent off sales.

Yeah, I'd rather have WAC do it. Better covers than Criterion too, often using poster art instead of the modern minimalist interpretations or bland photographs. You also know it's not gonna be a digibook.

If you care about that stuff. I rarely spend any time on extras.

Most WAC's at reduced prices still hover around $15-18, and a Criterion on sale is $19.99, so no, not half the price at all. If it were guaranteed to hit $10, then sure you can say it's half the price, but that's not likely. Even if we compared WAC's typical day one price, to Criterion's day one price at retailers, it still wouldn't be half.

That sounds right. But then why did you say "less than 10 dollars at most" instead of "around five dollars?" I was going off what you said.

$9? You can get every WAC title for $9? Please let us know. If you're basing it on the lowest a WAC title has ever gone, then that's pretty silly.

Because of the price range that WAC title go for (on Amazon at least), it's not as consistent as Criterion titles that go on sale. Some can fluctuate as low as $10-12 (and some lower still), but that's not common, so I was factoring that even if it did drop that low it would still likely be less than a $10 difference. But typically speaking, the difference is probably smaller in most cases. I mean, I can certainly get Criterion titles for less than $20 too. In fact, with Amazon / Target's recent B2G1 offer, some dropped down to $16 or less, depending on the title.

While I have the French Blu-ray, I would love this, especially on 4K, or a new 4K master. One of my favorite films.

My other wishes:

Le Fils/The Son (2002)
I'm Glad My Mother Is Alive (2011)
Act of Violence (1949)
Moontide (1942)

Watching the clock here. For Crit's flash sales, the date varies, but don't they most always announce about noon or 1 PM EST? I need to go to the grocery....

Usually at 12PM EST. It's usually a Tuesday as well, so you're safe going shopping.

Did you get in on WAC's final sale with that extra coupon discount?

Bought 15 WACs last week for an average of $9/ea plus tax.

Will buy at least 9 CCs during their next sale at twice that.

Like I said earlier, even if the prices were the same I would value the one with a better presentation over the one with better extras. It's insane that WAC titles can be so inexpensive. I'd rather have one of their blurays over most any other boutique label
