Went with 2 long-time wish list items

and a blind buy

With my gift certificates, these 3 cost me $0, and I even have 9 cents left over for the next sale!

"The Friends of Eddie Coyle" is one of the best blind buys you can possibly make. It really is one of those movies that reminds you what great cinema is all about and certainly one of my favorite films of the 70s. Mitchum's performance is absolutely towering, with uniformly excellent supporting work from Richard Jordan, Peter Boyle, Steven Keats, and Alex Rocco.

Eddie Coyle is great; easy blind buy for a 70s mafia/crime film.

just watched age of innocence. great film and one of my favorites by scorsese, but does anyone else think that the use of narration was unnecessary? i feel that it would have worked just as well without it.

the passage of time at the end for example - it could've just been shown and not explained in detail. the performances in the movie were so good and nuanced that i feel that having a third party explain things takes away from that.

While not commenting on the necessity of the voice-over, I'm of the opinion that Joanne Woodward should've been considered for Best Supporting Actress for the quality of her effort. I wish she would've done an audio-version of the book at the same time. I could listen to her speak those words for many, many hours. Personally, it's up there with my all-time favorite voice-overs like Barry Lyndon and Casino.

I just caught this one on TCM last month. Fantastic performances.

Criterion knew what they were doing when they sent out $10 credits with the Citizen Kane replacement discs. They got me to bite. Final haul:
  • The Red Shoes 4K
  • Mulholland Drive 4K (Blind Buy)
  • 12 Angry Men

I did something unheard of for me, I went back for a 2nd round and added MMG, HIM@N, and the Tarkovsky.

My Man Godfrey because I'm learning that Carole Lombard was pretty awesome. (To Be or Not To Be is HIGHLY recommended, btw.) History is Made at Night partly because of abdrewes recommendation and because Charles Boyer had a good face. The Furies because I have yet to see a single Barbara Stanwyck film that I haven't liked. The Red Shoes because The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (which I had never seen until recently) blew me away... I've gone back and watched all of the P&P CC blu-ray releases and appreciated them much more second time around.

I had my eye on the America set for a little while and actually scored a used copy for $37... and the Cary Grant and Tarkovsky film don't require much rationale.

and I finally made it to 500 points, so $50 for next time!

I received the $10 gift code last week for being a charter subscriber to the Channel. I blew it on..

I can't believe I never heard of this Pierre Etaix fellow until a few weeks ago. Turner Classics showed YOYO a couple of months ago and it sat on my DVR for a few weeks before I got around to watching it. By the end of the movie I was blown away and had to know more about this guy. Come to find out that this Criterion set has been out for YEARS!! Durrr....vowed to buy it in the next sale. And now I have.

One last order before the end of the flash sale. This time cleared some DVD’s off my wish list that I think have a low probability of getting a Blu-Ray upgrade

Fishing with John
Louie Bluie
The Most Dangerous Game
Big Deal on Madonna Street

If any get an upgrade from Criterion in the next few months, you are welcome

You guys with your $10 credits think you scored big? Think again! I've actually never used a single one of the four Criterion Channel credits I've gotten, so I got these four for $39.86 shipped. Pretty stoked. Would've gone for The Graduate, finally, but I thought I read there was a 4K version coming? Can't find anything about that now, though.

Being in Canada kind of sucks for this. Still went for it.

Was eyeing up Kuroneko, Onibaba, Ashes and Diamonds and Diamonds of the Night but I guess for next time.
Did see how Canadian Amazon has Human Condition for $52, which is a great price for it.

So, I placed my order yesterday and received a confirmation, but it has not arrived yet. I'm pretty annoyed. Where do I send my complaint?

I figured I'd get the inevitable complaints started.

I couldn’t resist picking up a few titles I’ve had my eye on this sale. They’re all blind buys except Uncut Gems. The Piano is the one I know the least about but reactions seem positive online.

Fairly new to collecting Criterion, how'd I do?

Order 1 on top, and Order 2 below. I watched my DVD copy of Mulholland Drive last night, just to confirm I wanted it on 4k, excellent flick. I just wish Criterion wouldn't use the digipacks!
