Great line-up of films in July. I was not expecting Devil in a Blue Dress and to have it in 4k is a big plus. Raging Bull in 4k will be stunning! Looks like I have to save for July. Thankfully these will be part of the B & N sale.

Kino didn't "do the same" as much as they were simply given an SDR master from MGM, which is likely what is also happening here with Criterion and The Virgin Suicides, unless Sofia Coppola specifically requested that the 4K restoration not be done in HDR. I don't know how much HDR would've benefitted The Great Escape anyway given the source material, and besides, Kino's disc is an absolute stunner. The compression alone blows the Criterion away. The drastically improved encode is worth it. The Criterion looks muddy and soft in comparison.

And Kino certainly didn't do The Good, the Bad and the Ugly "on the cheap", they put TONS of effort into that release. They actually consulted experts and used an IB tech print as a colour reference to correct the yellow filtered botch job done by Ritrovata. This was another case where Kino were given an SDR master, but they (finally) gave us the correct US theatrical cut with excellent compression and corrected colour grading. I'd even go as far as to say it's one of Kino's absolute best discs.

The Apartment is another UHD that looks gorgeous without HDR, as does Color Out of Space.

HDR isn't the only thing about UHD. I'd even say some UHDs that have HDR probably didn't really need it. Citizen Kane comes to mind.

Pretty sure it was licensed from iTV since Janus Films is the US theatrical distributor per their website, which wouldn't be the case if it were with MGM (who owns many Lopert Films titles via United Artists) or StudioCanal (who owns London Films productions).

While I think UHDs would have been nice for this and The Tales of Hoffmann, I really doubt they would have sold enough to justify it. One reason why I hope Criterion Channel eventually adds 4K since that would at least allow for an outlet for the titles that wouldn't sell enough copies.

If it’s the Akira Kurosawa box I hope they do like they did for Fellini and use all the existing 4k scans. I believe there’s at least 6 of them but if it’s more someone please correct me.

I also hope it’s in the same record size type case as the Essential Fellini (or Godzilla Showa like book size).

How often does Criterion have flash sales? I forgot I had a $10 coupon code I was given when I sent in for the Touch of Evil replacement disc. I'm going to need to wait for a sale to use the discount for it to be worth it.

Criterion released Citizen Kane. Kino released Touch of Evil.

I could be wrong, but you may be the only person in the world that wants more box sets shaped like Godzilla.

Still not sure if you're actually asking about Criterion or Kino, but there's a fab new thread that covers all current and upcoming sales. Criterion's flash sales are usually in March and October.

Let's just say that's preferable to a brick shaped boxset like they did in the DVD days. At least a record shape or book shape can be put on a shelf (of some sort).
