Very excited to see the release of Le Corbeau! I thought it would land elsewhere since the DVD had been discontinued, but glad it’s back, and still has that cool cover.

Exotica is also a certain pickup for me, and it’ll be hard to pass up an upgrade on Blow Out.

Good rebound month!

Don't mind triple dipping in HD for Exotica either.

A B&N employee on The Criterion Reddit said the sale dates are confirmed for 7/1-7/31.

It’s perhaps a bit of a shame they’re only including the DVD extras and not finding/producing anything new about the film as I’m sure there’s lots to talk about with it. Per DVDCompare the different BDs and DVDs have differing extras.

Glad I never bought Criterion’s UK reissue of Blow Out. The Arrow BD isn’t bad though.
It includes a terrific and insightful interview with Vilmos, who is no longer with us, who goes over his collaborations with De Palma. Just because of that it's a keeper IMO.

I tried watching 8 1/2 but couldn't get into it. Not my cup of tea.

I had tried to watch it multiple times over the past couple of years, and I could never get 20 minutes in without turning it off. Then 2 years ago I was talking to a mate of mine who is getting into film and he wanted essential films to see. I named 8 1/2, but warned him I couldn't get into it.

A week later he comes back to me raving about 8 1/2 and how it's in his top 10 films. He convinces me to try again and watch all of it. I did. I hated it, one of my least favourite films of all time.

I've been trying to finish it for the past few days. I just stopped 75 minutes into it. I'll try watching it again in the future.

I found it at Goodwill for 4 bucks. Broken case and no booklet. Took a gamble since it's Criterion. Glad I didn't pay 20 bucks or more for it.

I'll definitely be getting Exotica. That film blew me away when I saw it in the theatre. It was my first Egoyan. Never saw a story that was told that way before.

Not crazy about the cover art, though it's better than most of the previous releases. The only one I sort of liked was this one:

Yes, it's a very powerful film and one of my top wants of the year. Hoping for The Sweet Hereafter at some point!

At least I can finally retire my CALENDAR VHS that I think I still have sitting in a box!

But seriously, I have the Artificial Eye Atom Egoyan Blu-box, the Alliance Canadian Blu of EXOTICA, and a sealed copy of the Miramax DVD! You could say I'm a fan...

I can understand why they went with EXOTICA before SWEET HEREAFTER as it's the "sexy" title. Now what about a Blu for FELICIA'S JOURNEY?

What I'm NOT a fan of is Criterion's recent drawing-cover art style, for this title or for ROUGE, for example...
ANY of the original theatrical art (shown in this thread) or previous disc covers are better...

so I was at the premiere of the new restoration of Todd Haynes's Velvet Goldmine (an amazing film that I love deeply) and one of the producers let slip that its getting a criterion release.

I still can't articulate why I find the ending of 8 1/2 so incredibly moving.
It's not on Criterion but the film I have tried to watch from beginning to end numerous times without success is The Sorrow and the Pity. Universally acclaimed documentary on a weighty subject but about 3/4 of the way through I conk out every time. What a pity although I don't feel too much sorrow over it.

Any rumors on Isabel Sandoval movies coming to the Criterion Collection? Only seen "The Actress" and Lingua Franca but have no luck finding her other directorial works. Hating myself for skipping out on their limited time on the Criterion Channel about a year ago. Crazy that both Apparition and Senorita are both difficult to stream

This is astonishing to me... that anyone could react that way to 8 1/2. Easily one of the best films about "filmmaking" and the language of cinema ever made.

I'd take films about filmmaking like Ed Wood, Barton Fink (although that's just screenwriting), Shadow of the Vampire, and The Player over 8 1/2 anyday.

To me it felt like Fellini thought the film was smarter than it was. There's no flow to it whatsoever, just scenes back to back. The lead is not interesting in the slightest. Also, it shares the same problem with Suspiria (1977), where the first scene is the best and nothing later in the film tops it.

I realise this isn't popular in film circles. I'm in the minority in my dislike of the film, so it must be doing something right since the majority like or even love it. It just didn't work for me. I've seen 5 Fellini films
[Show spoiler](8 1/2, La Strada, La Dolce Vita, Julliet of the Spirits, and I Vitelloni)
and I've only liked one (that being La Strada).
