I just ordered it and delivery is guaranteed tomorrow.
The points at the Criterion site are effectively 10% cash back.

Don't expect it.
Imprint's master of Breakdown is not older than the PP release.

No, they stopped giving that extra 10% off. It's why I gave up my membership :/

Cool, next week I'll get my order in for the 50% off sale. Planning on completing the Jarmusch collection, getting a couple of the 4Ks, and Pink Flamingos !

Holding off on Kurosawa's in case a box set comes.

Criterion also did further corrections to War of the Worlds. They corrected the color of Mars, which is incorrectly blue on the Imprint one, but reddish/orange on the Criterion.

Imprint didn't promote it as a newly remastered 4K scan from Paramount, but the back of the case does say it is. Dr. Svet's review didn't mention it was remastered and says "The release is sourced from an older master that was supplied by Paramount Pictures." 7 months later the PP release appears with "a director-approved remaster from a new 4K film scan" and that reviewer gave it higher marks. Since I just bought the Imprint, what's the story here?

You should be good with the Imprint (minus an interview?) It's the same transfer with a different (ever so slightly worse) encode.

I wasn't completely sure of that one. Probably shouldn't have mentioned it.

If you expect to meet the threshold. At around $20 each that's 25 titles per $500. I looked at my wishlist and decided I'd never meet the next $500, so 5% in hand now is better than 10% in 8-10 years.

It takes me a couple of years to get enough to get that gift card. I'm not exactly someone who is going to ever even want a complete Criterion collection of my own, but the length of time actually makes it something of a benefit in my mind.

It seems pretty sure that enough will be released over the 2 years or so that I'll be interested in.

Or, I'll end up with a $50 gift card that I never want to use. Could happen.

Default B&N Sale Haul

Just placed my B&N sale order. This is my mini-haul:

[Show spoiler]

Generally, I like to give my business directly to Criterion, but October is soooo far away.

I wound up calling my store and they confirmed the same. So I ordered online. Was pleased Raging Bull preorder was included. I went for the all-4k haul of:

Raging Bull
Double Indemnity
For All Mankind
Mulholland Drive
The email confirmation lists all for 7/19… does BN not split preorders? (Edit: web status updated dates for non-preordered titles)

Not to distract from the sale, but Matilda (1978) about the boxing kangaroo popped up on the Criterion Channel this morning. Just wanted to note that.

Just a heads up for anyone with a Barnes and Noble membership. They sent out a 15% off your order coupon for in store or online yesterday and the girl let me use it in the store on my Criterion order! She had to do it manually as it wouldn't take it off automatically, but she did it. So I was charged 16.99 for each bluray I bought and 21.24 for each 4k UHD disc. So it's definitely worth trying! So happy!

I’ve NEVER convinced a BN employee to apply a coupon that wouldn’t automatically. Once I said to a manager there who was ringing me up, “One of these days I’ll buy something I can use a coupon on,” and she’s like, “yeah, I know.”

It’s not just Criterion, all kinds of things are exempt that aren’t obviously special in any way. They obviously just send the coupons to get you in the door knowing whatever you pick off the shelf likely won’t be eligible.
