Yeah, I have the Ascent release which is great. Still wish there were boxsets, so this way we could get more films period in HD. Still, something is better than nothing I suppose.

Can you think of any other director aside from Kaurismaki and Jarmusch that used such a level of deadpan humor in their films? I am trying to think of a third director like those two but am having a hard time coming up with a name (and I'm not going to do a Google search cause that's too easy).
Roy Andersson (especially Du Levande & Songs From The Second Floor).

Bent Hamer (O'Horten is a masterpiece imo, Kitchen Stories & Eggs are not that far behind either).

Personally speaking, I'd love to see an upgraded Blu Ray set for the Sabu! eclipse set.

I'm kinda similar. I usually end up on a long-haul flight (4+ hours) at least half a dozen times a year and I'll typically catch up on any "family" movies that I may have missed. Not having children of my own I would never see movies like "Minions," "The Addams Family" and "Hotel Transylvania" and rarely rent/purchase them unless they are part of a franchise I grew up with. However, they are perfect for flights because they are A.) Shorter than your average film, B.) Require less immediate attention, C.) I won't miss any cool effects and honestly most importantly D.) I don't have to worry about it being a "flight edit" for content. Otherwise I'll just download a season of some network (usually CW of FOX) series to catch up on on my iPad Pro.

To be honest I'm enough of a snob that I would never be able to watch a MARVEL/DC film or anything Cinematic/Remotely serious, because if it's not a TV I'm lucky to be able to give the device 75% of my attention (usually it's less than 50%).

If/When Criterion announces the UHD, I hope the packaging and artwork from the DVD set is retained. It was a really sharp looking set.

I would prefer that too, partly because I strongly dislike the new restoration posters done for these new restorations. I do wonder how they'd handle 400 Blows. Would it be released separately, or only found in a Doinel set? Or perhaps most likely released initially in the Doinel set, and then released later on as a standalone. Or maybe it gets a standalone and then another set with the remaining titles titled The Further Adventures of Antoine Doinel..

I think an individual release of 400 Blows soon after the box set is likely. I'll go with the box set because I like starting with "The Mischief Makers" into 400 Blows, Antoine and Colette, and the Doinel movies. I sold the DVD box many years ago because I thought a blu-ray set was a certainty!

The Mysterians, Varan, Atragon, Matango, Dogora, Frankenstein vs Barugon, and Space Amoeba are being added to the Criterion channel next month. May be our first sign that another Toho collection is coming, considering they've been sitting on Rodan and War of the Gargantuas ever since acquiring their first batch of Godzilla films.

and I know not everything on the channel means they have disc rights, but again, they've been sitting on two of the films for awhile. Would be surprising if they only wanted streaming rights.

Only thing missing is Latitude Zero, but that hasn't been released to Blu-ray in Japan yet.

I'll have to see this release before saying how much I agree with his assessment on the look of it, but I can already say that I'm in full agreement with his opinion of the film itself - contrary to the one from this site.

If Arsenic and Old Lace has an October 11th release date, there’s a good chance that the Fall Flash sale hits that same day.

I would say more so for Lost Highway 4K which also releases on the same day. I think it'll be that day too, but ther 18th is still a possibility with Cure releasing then. That way it covers the biggest titles of the month.

I watched Hiroshi Teshigahara's The Face of Another (1966) for the first time earlier today. I won't begin to say i understood everything. It's a very strange film, that kind of goes off the deep end by the third act. It somehow manages to feel inspired by both The Invisible Man, and Frankenstein early on, as we see a man with a completely bandaged face go to a mad scientist type doctor to get a new face, and essentially a new lease on life.

The movie starts to take on a different tone once he gets his new face, and actually starts resembling a David Lynch film like Eraserhead. Very surreal, and experimental vibes. Tatsuya Nakadai stars in the film, and plays the jaded character well. The film has some interesting musings on identity, and hte masks we wear in our everyday lives, though I think it puts way more emphasis on what having a new face would mean for your life than in actuality. Anyway, pretty interesting movie for sure, with and one that I could see getting better with a repeat vieiwng.

Yeah, that's been one of my most wanted blu-ray upgrades for a long time. Should revisit it as I haven't watched it in quite a while, revisited Woman in the Dunes recently though.

Yeah, it's a damn good movie, makes for a kickass double-bill with Frankenheimer's Seconds. I actually had a better experience with the film than with Kobo Abe's novel, which I thought plodded a good deal.

P.S. I just noticed that the cover for Seconds says "THE John Frankenheimer film". Even the Eureka cover says "Rock Hudson in THE John Frankenheimer film". It suggests that JF was so fond of this film had it contractually binding for it to be referred to as "THE John Frankenheimer film"
