I wonder how many people illegally rip their own blu-rays and make digital copies for themselves? If caught, that's a $250,000 fine and 5 years in prison if I'm not mistaken. Unless, that's "fair use"?

A lot of jurisdictions allow you to back up your own legally-purchased discs, and even those that don't aren't going to throw the maximum pirating penalty at anyone they catch.

One day, the politically correct amongst us will decide that certain films should no longer be accessible and they will disappear from streaming. Or they will be highly edited. It's not a question of will it happen, but a question of when it will happen.

I stream, and I use all the digital codes that come with my physical media purchases. But I'm not giving up physical media. No way. No how.

What about a situation like 1980's video nasties era Britain? Madness that police were raiding small stores and even peoples homes --- treating films like contraband drugs or weapons. That something like that could happen in one of the western world's strongest democracies is all the justification i need to collect everything i like on physical media.
And hope i don't have to one day "hide" my collection from authorities.

Remember that movie Equilibrium with Christian Bale? Not a great film, but I liked some of the Orwellian themes in there (even though it was trying to be like The Matrix at times). Well, I could one day see a back room full of classic literature, music, and cinema archived underground in a secret location so authorities would never find it. I hope our future reality doesn't turn into the second half of Logan's Run either, when not just history is erased but anyone over age 30.

Since I’m going to presume that sarcasm is being somewhat directed my way, I only allocated $50 for the sale about a week ago when I got paid last. I cannot allocate anymore until next Thursday. I did not check to see if they had raised the threshold and that is on me for believing it was still $50.
