Holiday sale at Criterion if anyone is interested. 30% off, pre-orders included, until 12/18.

Are the prices that are shown (not crossed out) the discounted prices? I've got my eye on that Lars von Trier set.

I believe so. I mostly skipped the November sale, but I might take a plunge. There's three titles I've been wanting for a very long time.

So with the 30% discount, Dazed and Confused 4K pre order is still $35?

That would be 30% off MSRP, yes. It was higher before on their site.

My email announcing the sale also included a $10 GC for being a Criterion Channel subscriber.

Wow, thanks for mentioning that. I get two emails usually, one from Criterion Channel, and one from Criterion Collection. I looked at the latter, and just deleted the other figuring it was the same, but I just looked, and it does indeed have a $10 code included.

Dazed and Confused release is Feb 21 which should be within 2 weeks of the next Flash sale (best guess Feb 28). Seems a bit extravagant to get it a week or two early -- just my opinion of course

This is something that doesn't get discussed much, but barring rare exceptions, when Criterion announces a release date, they stick to it. That can't be said for Kino, Arrow, Shout, Indicator, 88 Films, and many other boutique labels in the business. It's a small thing, but I've seen so many people get frustrated with other labels when an announced release date keeps shifting.

They just delay announcements instead.

Too on the nose. Like he’s practically begging Criterion to release it. Though maybe a deal was already done when he filmed it.

Well yes, the existence of the mug clearly indicates a relationship - branded items don't end up in movies without those discussions happening first.

I saw Glass Onion with Rian Johnson doing a Q&A after, and he said the Janus Films mug wasn't actually planned at all. While shooting the film he noticed one of the crew on the set had the Janus Films mug, so they decided to switch out the regular one they were planning to use with that one instead. He thought it worked really well because of
[Show spoiler]the symbolism behind Janus, and how that pertains to the character.

Has anyone else had an issue with The Lady Vanishes?

I know there is a list of defective Bluray's a few years back and it's not on that list. However went to watch it and none of my players read it anymore.

Anyway as long as we are hoping for stuff. Barry Lyndon 4K!
