That would be my advice after a thorough cleaning doesn't work (even if it looks clean). I guess I'd try a second player if you have and if you have access to a PC BDROM, run a program like VSO Inspector to see if errors show up.

Criterion has been exceedingly good about replacing discs that have 'gone bad' over the years including many discs that are technically OOP but may have some 'spares' in the system. I don't think this was from the original Replication Plant problems, but it is from the same general era,

Contact JM or orders@criterion.com and ask for some help. I usually do the latter since I almost always get a quick response and the JM email sometimes is the same, but can take a while to get a response. If the Orders CSR can't help directly they should be able to forward it directly to correct dept.

can you read the IFPI info on the inner ring to see which plant manufactured it?

" I finally got around to sending my THE LADY VANISHES (original standalone) back to Criterion and got an interesting followup email from Justin O. today with some updated information. I had used the prior instructions and just mailed the disc back to Criterion NY address with my name/address and short message like I did with Walkabout and Summer Hours. I did like that he had my prior information on hand and mentioned my prior discs. Also interesting he mention TLV being a problem disc though it's not on the longer list of those 2010 range items.


Essentially they have changed the exchange program and may no longer require you to mail the discs to them first. Contact them at the below accts and they should lead you through the rest of the procedure

We have confirmed that certain Blu-ray discs pressed at a replication facility that we used for a period in 2010 have become defective, showing a noticeable bronze discoloration on the underside and developing playback problems. We have confirmed the problem for select titles, but not on all copies of these titles. All of these titles have since been re-pressed at a different pressing plant, and the vast majority of discs in circulation should not be affected.

Not all runs of these discs were affected with the disc rot. If your disc is displaying discoloration and/or having playback issues, please report it. Replacements will be honored for the foreseeable future, so there's no rush to request a new copy if there's no apparent problem.

Lets see if we finally get Heroic Trio/Executioners. I think the theatrical screenings are done. Plus with Michele Yeoh on fire right now, it seems like it would be a very odd duck move by Criterion to not release this to capitalize on that as soon as possible.

Yeah maybe. I just want these two movies soon. Seemed like awhile ago since these were shown in theaters? Has to be somewhat close to a year, but no idea.

I was already guessing that the flash sale would be on March 7th to include the Mildred Pierce 4K release. My other guess would have been February 14 for Romeo & Juliet, so the fact they're running this love-themed 30% sale through Feb 16 just makes the Mar 7th date seem even more likely to me.

As I snatched up a copy of Quartet Record's 2-disc soundtrack release of Visconti/Rota's "Il Gattopardo" (going OOP) today, I was wondering whether we will ever see a 4K release of this movie. It certainly would be a worthy film for this format. Also, Criterion could correct the mistakes from the previous release which it owes to it being from an older 2K restoration instead of the more recent 4K one. I also couldn't help but realize that the international blu-ray releases of the "Gattopardo" have been going out of print, some of which are now fetching crazy prices on the secondary market. This is certainly due to Fox being the rightsholder. Another sign that Criterion is (once more) our only and last hope for a definitive (and English-friendly) "Gattopardo" home video release.



I hope the soundtrack sounds as good or better than the excerpts I was able to listen to online.
