They changed it when they moved to 4ks. Lost Highway bluray is also just standard case, while 4k is digipak.

This is what my UHD of Devil in a Blue Dress looks like:

Like wtf is this shit? It actually looks like someone took the disc and scraped it against something.

I'm going to contact Shout directly and ask for a replacement. I HATE how this is becoming the norm these days.
It's a majority of the discs I buy now. Pretty much the only time I don't receive scratched discs are if they're from Paramount or an overseas label because those discs are pressed in Germany. But here? Absolute. F*cking. Shitshow.

It also doesn't help that in the UHD age, most of these titles are multi-disc sets and you're lucky to get a set that doesn't have at least one of the discs in it that's scratched. It's almost like they're deliberately trying to speed up physical media's demise. They're certainly doing a hell of a job.

That is really bad. My Dawn disc replacement has circular scratches. I received it today. Just another day. Going to ask Shout for a direct replacement vs going through Amazon again.

The gunk on the right is from off gassing. The case is really bad.

Looks like someone tried cleaning it with sandpaper.

Perhaps a Magic Eraser they had lying around in the plant, not realizing it's functionally the same thing!

If you look closely, you can make out the culprit

[Show spoiler]In all seriousness, that's horrible, and I'm sorry that happened. I hope you won't have any issues getting it exchanged.

Well, I got a reply about my query into the Pasolini supplements.

They answered half of my question. But anyway, the product description vaguely says the set contains, "Two documentaries made by Pasolini during his travels". I asked if those two docs were "Searching in Palestine" (about pre-production on "The Gospel According to Matthew") and "Notes for a Film on India". Criterion confirmed that, indeed, those are the two included docs. But I also asked what the, "Documentaries about Pasolini and his life and work" were, and they didn't really respond. Anyway, guess I'll have to wait and see.

Just thought I'd share that if anyone was interested.

I think the digipaks Criterion makes are pretty flimsy and prone to damage so I’d rather have hardcases to be honest.

Double Indemnity and Shaft 4Ks are both excellent. I knocked out some backlog with this one:

Haxan
Vampyr
Safety Last!
The Gold Rush

Was scrolling through Twitter, and noticed someone posted this hilarious and awesome poster Janus Films made for the re-release of King Kong all the way back in 1968. Poster was definitely a sign of its times

Just a counterpoint to all the damaged disks posts, I received a box of 10 titles from the sale yesterday. While I don't normally open my disks until I am ready to watch them the posts in this thread caused me some concern.

After opening the box, every disk and all the packaging was in pristine condition.* YMMV.

*The box was laying in my driveway btw since my Pittie went out to greet the UPS guy(because the USPS guy gives her treats) and I guess he freaked out and didn't make it to my porch.

Wish some boutique publisher would reprint The Girl In The Hairy Paw.

As a kid, I didn't like it as much as The Making Of...by Goldner & Turner because the latter had actual, seldom seen (in that pre VCR era) screencaps from the film.
As an adult, all the articles and ephemera from around the world would be interesting as hell to read and see again.

Mine came in Friday, but I've yet to check the individual discs.
I, too, prefer to keep them sealed until I want to watch them, but will be checking a few because of this thread.

I'm thinking it should only be the last three years of releases that are problematic. That's about half the order.
Unfortunately, most of my previous purchases from B&N and Flash sales haven't been checked yet either.

Sounds like a project for tonight.
