Just received an email from Barnes & Noble toting a 30% off sale.
Have they replaced the 50% off sale with this 30%?

Or is it just a price match for Criterion's own current 30%-off sale?

I think we should wait until the usual time of the 50% off, and if it doesn’t start then we panic. But until then I say we don’t worry.

[Show spoiler]who am I kidding, this thread could explode with doom & gloom! Never gonna get another Criterion 50% sale again!

It can be done, but unless someone can come up with data which suggests that doing so will significantly improve revenue from this supposedly significant chunk of hearing impaired customers, the company will not dedicate the time and resources required to do this. Bigger studios that can hope to sell hundreds of thousands or more of units for a release (and hold a license in perpetuity) can better justify that.
They should either do them right or not bother. It just reflects on them badly either way.

I'll never forget seeing a samurai film in an Asian movie theater in Seattle, circa mid-1960's. As an enemy band of samurai warriors suddenly approached, one of our heroes' exclamations was subtitled as, "Cheese it--the cops!!"

I should add that the film wasn't one of the Akira Kurosawa classics.

What would I like to see from Criterion? Well, I no longer need to request PRIVATE PARTS (1972) or AFTER HOURS, so I'll choose some other titles:

ONE FROM THE HEART (Coppola is rumored to be restoring this film)
THE LAST PICTURE SHOW (standalone release)
A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE (1962)
EYES WIDE SHUT
LITTLE DARLINGS
PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE (widescreen)
THE STOLEN AIRSHIP (Karel Zeman, has been restored by the Zeman museum)
THE SEVENTH VICTIM
THE GLASS MENAGERIE (1987)
RETURN OF THE SEACAUCAS SEVEN (with interviews with all cast members)
A PERFECT COUPLE (Robert Altman)

Would love to see this:

Ray Bradbury double feature:
THE ELECTRIC GRANDMOTHER (1982)
+
ALL SUMMER IN A DAY (1982)

Phoenix Learning Group, I believe, bought the perpetual rights to these films. They used to offer them on DVD-R with case art and all (which I have), but now only offer $50 digital copies. Would be nice to get some highdef transfers, both are excellent family films.

This is my hope. Probably happening eventually, since other Gilliam releases are getting upgraded.

Would love to see the Charlie Chaplin titles transition to 4K. Some of them definitely need new scans.

I know Criterion often announces their stuff ON the 15th but this now brings an interesting situation: IF Criterion does delay their announcement for the next day, then we may actually get Moonage Daydream.

If not, then it’s probably some non-Criterion film like a restoration of the Ziggy Stardust Motion Picture
Can we just get both??

As always hoping for something Japanese. Would really like some of the HK stuff they have too like Heroic Due, Eastern Condors, the Jackie Chan films, etc. Maybe with a side of the Roaring 20's and Pat Garrett.

Ok, I'm gonna be negative here. But with all the *****ing and moaning I and others have done about no Kurosawa for years, the one they release almost 8 years later is a damn 4K of the last one they released 8 years ago

Still 100% buying it, just kinda funny.
