Actually, it may have been 16mm. Not sure. I just know it was genuine celluloid.

It was an original 1932 archival print. Looked pretty good. Certainly better than the print of The Princess Bride which showed before it. They weren't allowed to chop the headers off the reels, so there was several seconds of blackness every 20 minutes. Was in an old theater that'd been abandoned for 20 years, all bare concrete, audio was thus pretty terrible. Ran 65 minutes.

Film Forums August / September schedule (PDF) has been posted. Only one event from Janus Films, but it's a niec one. They'll be doing a 2-week retrospective on Ousmane Sembène, with new restorations of Emitaï (1971), Xala (1975), and Ceedo (1977) being shown.

Besides Janus, they'll also be showing the 4K restoration of Farewell My Concubine (1993), which Film Movement will be releasing later this year (or early 2024).

Hoping for a HAPPINESS OCT announcement

But I’d guess since that info dropped recently something tells me it could be months and months away from being announced.

Hope they do a 4K UHD for it.

Is it heavily-rumored that Criterion has The Misfits? If so, I wonder if the plan would be a 4k disc, or just a Blu-ray reissue. I can't see it being a big enough title to justify the former, no matter how splendid a movie it is.

I'm usually pretty vocal against pointless Criterion reissues, but this one could use a lot of work and the collection definitely needs more Clift (I would have bet anything once upon a time that Wild River would be a CC release before the Fox edition, and Kino "stole" Terminal Station.)

October predictions:

The Blob (1958) 4K
Demon Pond (1979)
Titane 4K
Spellbound (1945)
Blacula 4K

Janus Contemporaries:

EO

I haven't had a good batting record of late, but I feel this would be a pretty good mix of titles. A classic psychological thriller, a modern body horror, Japanese ghost story, a classic blaxploitation horror film, and a classic American Sci-Fi/horror. So yeah, with that said, I don't expect to get a single one correct

I would love The Blob in 4K. I almost picked up the BD the other day when I was in BN picking up House.

I also have had a feeling that a Hausu 4K might get announced. Maybe just trying to will it into existence. I could see Ugetsu getting a 4K upgrade as well as it's blu release was a 4K Remaster. It's also well beyond time we got an HD upgrade for Jigoku and Double Suicide.

My only prediction, based on some of the titles offered this year, another Terry Gilliam film offered in 4K. They already have Fear & Loathing, Brazil and Jabberwocky... Possibly one of those titles.

Which films remain of his filmography? Arrow has 12 Monkeys.

Fire Walk with Me 4k please. It's coming out in Europe this year but it got delayed. House 4k would be spectacular if the licensor plays ball.

The Innocents should kinda sorta have a chance considering Disney opened their doors for Straw Dogs and Notorious most recent, not to mention The Innocents has stayed in print so far. At least I'd hope it'd have a chance but that might be wishful thinking! lol

IMO, it's pretty concerning that the semi-regular release of Fox titles just all of a sudden stopped after they released three in a short span last year and the only ray of hope, WALL-E, was stated to be an one off vanity project thing.
I just hope I'm wrong about having no hope of any more Disney-Criterion partnership (other than Spellbound, apparently licensed to them already B.D+.E.)

I don't think we know either way. I looked it up, and the last two times the 14th was on a Friday was April 14th, 2023, where they did announce titles, and October 14th, 2022, where they didn't, and waited till the 17th.
