Just got an email that The Film Foundation will be holding a virtual screening of the Egyptian film Al Momia (1969) and the short film The Eloquent Peasant (1970) on August 12th. I imagine the film will be in a future WCF release.

Registration for the event is free:

If it’s a Browning trilogy, I hope it’s The Show, The Unknown, and Freaks. All carnival themed.

Regarding Robertson, he's an exceptional talent, and let's not forget he wrote many of The Band's biggest hits. The issue for The Band was three-fold, Dylan's shadow, Robertson's shadow, and most of all, the royalty checks mailed in Robbie's name.

Besides, there's no shame not holding a candle vocally to Danko, Helm and Manuel and having your mic lowered/turned off in a live mix.

Lastly, The Last Waltz is the greatest rock concert documentary that I've ever seen. If there's one better, I haven't seen it.

Agreed. It's so beyond the beyond, it boggles the mind that it was fairly successful at the box office. Humans. You can lecture them all day long, they love watching lives stuck in the muck of depravity.

If not, here's hoping WAC gives the Browning with Chaney standouts that didn't make the cut their own set or individual restorations on Blu.

It's just kind of comical that Paramount didn't renew the license for it and several others, because they planned their own release, only for them to license it back now. I wonder what that means for Harold and Maude, Days of Heaven, and Nashville. Paramount are apparently releasing Rosemary's Baby on 4K themselves.

I already have the David M-encoded StudioCanal 4K, so that’s hardly gone be a priority for me.

would make up for the UHD having less extras than the BD and the DCP having barely any theatrical presence, would like to hear the Criterion commentary

38 upcoming screenings for an old, foreign movie is pretty good in my book:

It's one of the best concert film/music docs out there. I've seen it more than once but I don't find it "highly rewatchable." I have a hard time just sitting and watching a concert performance on film.

That said, Van Morrison's exuberant performance of Caravan steals the show IMO.

Indeed. The UK 4K disc is exceptional.

I wonder if Criterion weighs the releases that might cannibalize their sales. Don't Look Now is good and all, but their audience that would be interested probably imported or bought the SC release already. Seems kinda silly to release a title on a niche format that has been out for some time now in a fantastic edition.

Arrow and SC are already better at being Criterion that Criterion is at this point.

I’m hoping the October slate isn’t just the Browning set plus a bunch of 4k upgrades. There’s still plenty of good horror and thrillers without a Blu Ray release.

Maybe some Desperate Living in 4K for October. That would be sexy.

I've been wondering the exact same thing ever since Don't Look Now was revealed this morning. Both Nashville and Harold and Maude got Paramount Presents BD releases, but they have yet to be announced for UHD. Curious to see what happens to those...

Paramount also put out their own BD of Murder on the Orient Express only for Kino to announce a UHD later on.

They will finally release Freaks to the world and they know we will collectively piss, shit and vomit out of excitement. We are not ready for it just yet.

The Paramount Presents transfer of Harold and Maude packaged with the Criterion extras would be excellent.

It's not that late. They've been posting earlier recently but there used to be a time they were regularly making announcements late in the afternoon.

I haven't been this palpably excited for a Criterion announcement drop in a while!
