I called it on that "Mean Streets"! I'm so glad they got it out for its 50th!

I only wish it had gotten "Who's That Knocking at My Door?" on it as a supplement, like "Texasville" on "The Last Picture Show".

Oh well, maybe Criterion deems "Who's That Knocking" worthy of its own separate release eventually, which is fine, too! And bring "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore", also!

Well, nothing for me this month---

Ha Ha, I've said that after several previous months, but not this month! I'll start with THE LAST PICTURE SHOW and MEAN STREETS.

And the award goes to hoytereden for knowing how to use spoilers on a movie. Please teach some of them at TCM (especially a certain Aussie who shall remain nameless) to do the same.

Off the top of my head the same could be said about Godzilla: King Of The Monsters in the old Godzilla Blu (not the Showa set) and Killer’s Kiss from Kubrick.

Two things here. One, they know when they upgrade their old discs to 4K, they need to bring something to the table in terms of special features. The main perk of that BBS set was to have everything together. Now TLPS (and eventually Easy Rider) has to stand on its own, which requires more content. Two, Criterion and Columbia (by way if the CC3 set) are both selling 4Ks of the same movie. While this is one of maybe ten 4K movies to have a new disc so far (the OG Halloween and WALL-E are the only other ones I can think of), this is our vindication that despite those who say “oh, physical media’s dying, sonny! Streaming’s the future!”, 4K is not a gimmick, it’s here to stay and we’re in a pretty good position for movies in the future.

While I’m not on the payroll over there (but I wish I was), I would say that the goal of 1200-2000 needs to be to bring back at the least all of the laserdiscs, and if possible some of the DVDs and Blu-rays that went out of print. You literally can’t even make it past two laserdiscs or one DVD without finding one that’s OOP.

Mean Streets and TLPS, the last time I saw them was on Beta. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. While I admittedly don’t know the difference between the cuts on TLPS (hence the reason I might seriously double dip on the Criterion 4K and the CC3 set), those two are solid 10s for me. A few days ago I was catching up on YouTube and watching a preemptive review of CC3 the day the announcement came out. His review was “Annie is the prize of this set, the other five art films aren’t really my thing.” I nearly shit when I heard that, not only because he just casually dismissed the other five movies, but because it was obvious he had never even seen them. There had to be at least 200 comments saying how he seriously misjudged the other five movies, especially TLPS. I kept remembering the movie in my head, knowing that it ran circles around every other movie in that set.

Days Of Heaven, I’ve admittedly never seen, despite being a Malick fan. So that one’s a win too. Jackie Chan and La cérémonie are eventually purchases for me. I do love the artwork for JC though, since it’s literally him kicking himself in the nuts. I hope it goes to print like that.

I feel like a big boxset is gonna be announced before next months announcements. But Ozu’s Birthday is December 12 and December is the next batch of announcements.

At this point, I’m 100% sure that when they come out (this is a when, not an if), Criterion will be the one to drop them. While I don’t know for sure what format WTKAMD will be (should be native 4K, there’s a lot of stylistic decisions made that could benefit from the boost in quality), Alice will definitely be 4K.

Oh and PS some of your “most wanted” movies are out of date...but that’s a good thing!

He kindly used spoilers on a key plot point in La cérémonie, and because he mentioned TCM I used it as a chance to take another swipe at one of their hosts who spoiled what became one of my favorite movies as I was preparing to watch it for the first time.

Friday September 15 is the December announcement. My phone is a turkey, or I’d go look up the other notable spines. (I’ll do that and edit below.) While I specifically remember Spine 1000 having its own announcement followed by an appearance in the basic month announcement (Godzilla: The Showa Era), I don’t remember how 1100 played out, and in fact I don’t really remember any fanfare at all about the spine number. There was more to be made about Criterion finally making the jump to 4K, so presumably 1100 was one of those titles.

Edit 1: Godzilla had its first announcement on July 25, its second announcement on September 23, and it released on October 29. Now to check the other October 2019 releases.

Edit 2: Godzilla wasn’t even mentioned in the October 2019 announcement. Next let me check The Invisible Shrinking Man.

Edit 3: It was treated like any other release. Hopefully 1200 is treated lime it’s something special, not just another release.

This is my complaint with titles like The Trial, Breathless, Branded to Kill, Night of the Living Dead, Le Cercle Rouge, Don’t Look Now, Days of Heaven, Blow Out, Time Bandits, Videodrome, Wings of Desire, Three Colours, Mulholland Drive, which require double dipping across territories for more recently produced extras, rather than having one definitive edition.

1200, 12th month, December, Christmas... Isn't it obvious?

I see that somebody still hasn't learned what the multi-quote button is for.

I seldom use the Ignore feature, but when I do it pays dividends.

So I won’t be a dick about it, because admittedly the umpteen comments are bad enough.

While I occasionally drop an obscene number of comments from my Chromebook, my iPhone is so loaded with crap that it doesn’t function normally. Multi-quote won’t work, and even opening other comments in multiple tabs and combining them into one the hard way is iffy at best. When 20+ comments jam up a thread on here, that’s a clear sign that there’s technical difficulties on my end.

It’s just as annoying for you all as it is for me, just for different reasons. It’s annoying for you because you don’t want to deal with me filibustering through probably at least 20 threads on this site. It’s annoying for me because I have tech that’s all FUBAR and I have to put up with this 24/7. 60 texts come through between 12 and 3 in the morning (usually at least 57 of them are crap), calls come through 1-2 days later, and my Safari, YouTube, and eBay just crash whenever they feel like it. Assuming that my finances finally allow, the computer is getting upgraded within the month, the Chromebook is getting Office Spaced, and then even more posts will be from the computer instead of the phone.

And now back to Criterion.
