It's the new very long version (400+ mins), so I'm really excited for this one. I was blown away by the old Flicker Alley DVD that was only half the runtime (icky subject matter aside).

I decided I couldn't afford the French limited release at $70 but it took a lot of talking to myself to get there.

Insane, I was thinking it was a perfect fit. Arrow would be a good fit and maybe they could include Yo Ho Ho as an extra.

Thank you for the article. I did not know the blu-ray was going for 100 bucks plus. I hope Tarsem will bring the film to streaming. The Fall will easily build an audience and fan base.

The Cell would be awesome in 4k as well.

I wonder who has the distribution rights to his film? That might be the true hold up. I remember Jodorowsky’s earlier films being held hostage by Alan Klein for decades (those films also need 4k releases).

Also, if you haven't opened it yet, keep a lookout for any scratches on the disc as well. If you want to be extra cautious, watching the disc could also help to ensure that your disc is perfectly fine.
Tried that with the partially ripped spine on my Agnes Varda digibook. Criterion doesn't care. Told me to contact Amazon, apparently preferring the seller to replace the whole unit and then destroy all the perfectly fine discs.

You caught yourself a unicorn.

The blu-ray was released before the slipcover craze. I am a doubting Thomas “I have to see to believe” Can you post an image of The Fall 2006 by Tarsem blu ray with a slipcover?

sure - I'll check it when I get home. maybe my memory has failed me re slipcover but I am pretty sure it came with one?

what's so fancy about the movie anyway? like why is it so highly sought after? never got around to watching it along with around 800 or so other movies sitting there for me to get through.

The Fall (2006) had a limited edition with slipcover and cards in France. I don't think the Sony US release had oen, as it was released very early on.

I had a feeling the standard US version did not have slipcover, but there is always limited editions going around. The French slipcover limited edition looks cool! Thanks MifuneFan for the pic. Saqibhasan, if you have the French edition, you can easily get more than 100 dollars (especially from a US collector) for it. I am content with my standard US edition.

I really enjoyed the costume design and aesthetics of the film. Tarsem used different, interesting locations around the world for his movie, which gives it a surreal quality to the narrative. It has some of best color cinematography I have seen. It is truly one of a kind film experience. I liked the acting performance between the storyteller and the little girl. Get a bootleg version (do not open your slipcover edition) and check it out. It is a wonderful film and it’s been out of print for while (likely the reasons why it is so expensive and sought after).

Regards

I'll be honest with you, it would take something to beat the Director's Cut of Yimou's Hero - if you love the color aspect, each version of events has a different color running through it. I have no idea why criterion haven't tried to get this movie's rights especially since it was slaughtered and butchered like a ***** by Tarantino.

I can only imagine that Criterion is not entirely sure about the legal angles (although considering it was a self-funded project I don't know if there are any legal angles to consider), because in what world is Criterion in, if a bunch of half-assed Jackie Chan movies make more sense for them to put out than The Fall?

Would highly recommend you put the other 799 discs aside and watch this one. It's an amazing take on a fairy tale. The only film remotely like it in terms of look and feel is Matteo Garrone's Tale of Tales. This one is better.

No, November reminds me more of White Reindeer (1952). The Fall is quite different from that one.

I really expected Mank to have come out awhile ago, but maybe with the new Fincher film, it could happen? Maybe? Probably not.

Was browsing American Cinematheque's website, and noticed they will be showing the US premiere of a Director's Cut of Deep Crimson (1996) from a new 4K restoration, and they credit Janus Films.

https://www.americancinematheque.com...s-cut-9-16-23/

Quote:
DEEP CRIMSON (DIRECTOR’S CUT)
$8.00 (member) ; $13.00 (general admission)

Aero Theatre | Q&A with filmmaker Arturo Ripstein and writer Paz Alicia Garcíadiego

U.S. Premiere! New 4K Restoration and Director’s Cut Courtesy of Janus Films

‘Arturo Ripstein: An American Cinematheque Retrospective’ and ‘The Latin American Canon of Cruelty’

Co-presented by Hola Mexico Film Festival

ABOUT THE FILM:
In Spanish with English subtitles.

In this alternately macabre and mirthful thriller, based on a true-crime story, renowned Mexican director Arturo Ripstein brings a stylish audacity to the tale of the “Lonely Hearts Killers,” a couple who, in the 1940s, posed as brother and sister to lure and murder unsuspecting widows. Featuring performances both sympathetic and stomach-churning by Regina Orozco and Daniel Giménez Cacho, DEEP CRIMSON is a wild update of the same events that inspired Leonard Kastle’s THE HONEYMOON KILLERS.

FORMAT: DCP

DISTRIBUTOR: Janus Films

COUNTRY: Mexico

Has there been any tea leaves on an Wise Blood?

I just watched it on the Channel, and it seems cleaner and sharper than my memories of the last time I watched it.

*considers making joke about how the colors on the laserdisc were more accurate to the theatrical presentation*

*is pretty sure that's a really narrow reference that no one will bother to even try to remember*

*does not make joke about how the colors on the laserdisc were more accurate*
