I'm actually really hoping we get a boxset of all of the other Ishiro Hondo/Kaiju titles first. Another boxset with Godzilla would be great, but man it would be even more great to have a Criterion release of Matango.

Yes, an Ishiro Honda box set would be great.

I would love release of All the Vermeers in New York. Always felt it's a perfect for Criterion.

I wonder how good the transfers are on the Japanese Kurosawa 4Ks and when Criterion will release a few of them

There are detailed breakdowns of all of the Toho UHDs in the international 4K section of the forum by myself and a few others who got them.

In short, they’re all massive, massive upgrades even though the original negative or even an interpositive of most Kurosawa films are lost. There are some caveats to the video masters which are forgivable though. Nearly as big as the video upgrades are the restored audio tracks. Again these are unbelievable improvements over Criterion’s horribly filtered tracks.

Check for yourself (screenshots etc.) and decide whether you get them. They are all without English subtitles. The likelihood of Criterion UHDs at the moment seems low due to Toho’s current unwillingness to license anything out. A few years ago they even licensed out an older master of one of their films to Criterion even though a newer 4K restoration was available. Sad but all in all better than nothing.

Based on what I've seen all are huge upgrades especially High and Low, minus Kagemusha which I personally think looks like an abomination due to the new color grading. Either way, hopefully Criterion can get some new Kurosawa releases out. Been waiting on The Bad Sleep Well for a very long time.

It's the reason I haven't picked them up. I'd have to rip them and sync with available subs. I'll probably end up doing that eventually

Thank you everyone for the recommendations! I'll have to pick them up when a Criterion or Warner Archive sale goes live. As for the Twilight Time releases, I might have to wait for a secondhand deal.

Just finished watching this film on Tubi. What a rollercoaster of a film. I didn't know where it was leading, who to trust, what to believe.

I just read the synopsis. It seems interesting. Just Googled quickly and it doesn't appear that it had a Blu-ray release? One of the labels needs to get on this.

An Ozu set in December would be a nice way to end the year! Nobody would be expecting another big release.

It will be a 4K Japanese cinema boxset of every film they have the rights to that comes from the island nation.

It will cost $25,000.

It will be packaged in a giant samurai sword that is impossible to store anywhere.

Someone said they think #1200 will be a Twin Peaks 4K Box Set, because Janus tweeted a Season 2 newspaper flyer and there's been other minor hints towards something, and I think that could be viable. It'd be a massive title and seller for the company and would be one of the key Lynch work's they're missing so it makes sense, whether it'll happen who knows but I wouldn't be shocked.

While I think that's an incredible longshot, I would 100% buy that day one, cost be damned. If anything, I'd bet it's just a 4K of FWWM.

$25,000 would be much too high to even consider a purchase.

.....but half off might do it.

Usually when there is a MASSIVE boxset, they announce it a few days prior to the regular titles, so I would have imagined we would have gotten the reveal already if #1200 was going to be a big one.
