First flash sale I've missed since 2016, and planning to sit out the KLSC one next month as well. But I must admit I've enjoyed everyone's haul posts more than ever this year!

The special features have been rejiggered around as well, so Jeanne Dielman not only has a new (2020) transfer but also higher bitrate overall than the 2017 Blu.
That review was just what I had been looking for, thanks for linking it! A handful of new shorts and features wouldn't probably be enough to purchase, but the improved transfers on several films make it more tempting. I'll revisit a few things before making a final decision.

I gave up chips and soda. That wasn't enough?

Absolutely, it's the choice itself that counts...not the scope!

My biggest haul for a Criterion Flash sale yet.

53 films!!!!

(ok, but they're all in two box sets. Finally pulled the trigger on the Bergman and Felini boxes)

Possibly the best physical media purchases you’ll ever make.

What is everyone hoping Criterion will announce this year the most? I am already floored by the releases coming out so far this year. I hope for a Kurosawa Blu-ray collection alongside either a Truffaut collection and/or Doinel 4K box-set (maybe both) more than anything else on my wish-list. I will remain optimistic for a big Ozu box-set later this year too.

I could see Criterion releasing a massive career-spanning Kurosawa Blu-ray set (similar to the DVD only version produced many years ago) and release only a select few on 4K UHD as standalone editions (similar to what Criterion did with the Bergman set perhaps - with a standalone 4K of The Seventh Seal).

I'm hoping Criterion will get around to upgrading those handful of titles that are still only on DVD and never made the jump to Blu-Ray. I've been yearning for an upgrade on the Eisenstein Sound Years box set since 2009, and these movies still never made the jump. Since I recently discovered it, I'm also rooting for Kanal to get a BD or UHD upgrade too now. And, maybe Empire of Passion. And maybe the 1940 Thief of Baghdad. There's still a lot of good stuff they could upgrade.

I've recently been Jonesing for some more Aki Kaurismäki, and have been surprised by how little of his work is on Blu-Ray right now. A complete collection was released in the UK some years ago (although now it's incomplete, lol), and it seems to me that Criterion could release a similar set. Or at the very least, upgrade the Proletariat Trilogy. Not sure if they have the rights to Fallen Leaves, of it that's a Mubi thing, but if Criteron puts it out it wouldn't surprise me.

Would love to see a Kurosawa box set. But even if they start piecemealing titles to 4K, I'd probably upgrade them regardless.

Could see 4K upgrades given to some Trier films (namely Breaking the Waves) and The Double Life of Veronique since these were released in the UK recently. My dream release would probably be Dancer in the Dark with the same upscaling/remastering tech used for Inland Empire.

The real crème de la crème would have to be Armageddon in 4K though. Something tells me it won't happen.

I would love for Criterion to tackle a box set related to Fred Kelemen.

Never say never, but people have frequently talked about how Toho, who holds the rights to several of his acclaimed movies, are increasingly hard to deal with, and most of Criterion's recent Kurosawa releases are for the films which have other international rights-holders.

Even their Godzilla boxset, Criterion had to deal with dated masters and restrictions on supplements.

Hoping the lead I had on Risky Business (1983) turns out to be true. If Warner don't do it, also hoping for SubUrbia (1996), which they were meant to be releasing over 10 years ago.

We should get Powell & Pressburger B&W at least on BD: 49th Parallel, A Canterbury Tale, I Know Where I'm Going - but my prediction is we won't.

If they want to continue upgrading some of their existing BD to UHD, the obvious candidates (rather than some of their recent bizarre choices) would be Seven Samurai, Tokyo Story and La Dolce Vita - but at most we will get one of those.

I suppose Taxi Driver UHD is inevitable, after Mean Streets.

The obvious candidate for a Coen Bros film would be Buster Scruggs, but not holding my breath.

Would love to see The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, if nothing else for the Deakins' cinematography, Westerns are not dead, but not holding my breath. Speaking of Westerns and not holding my breath, there's that Peckinpah film.....feels like keeping the runway lights on in case Emilia Earhart shows up.

Is there any chance at all of the Del Toro boxset being re-released in UHD? Some of those films are now available on UHD (though Pan's Labyrinth only with the junk studio BD while the Criterion BD reportedly has encoding issues, The Devil's Backbone only available in UHD in one of those dumb studio compilation boxsets, but maybe the BD is good enough).

I got Gilda in the recent sale (speaking of landmarks in queer film), so their way is now clear to giving that one an upgrade.

Would love to see The Long Voyage Home, some indication they were working on that back in the Film Struck days (does anyone even remember Film Struck?), but again not holding my breath.

Dominik has stated several times that Criterion have no interest in releasing it. That doesn't mean they won't change their minds down the road, but yeah, not holding my breath either.
