Gacivory, I'm sorry but I can't see just a film score. On my computer screen, there are all three scores there, not just a single score for the movie.

It looks like that until I hit the blu-ray review tab and then it comes up with the film rating which is indeed 4 stars

Ahh! Yes, thanks for the info. I hit the Blu-ray review tab and a fourth score for just the movie DID pop up.

Strangely enough, it shows 4.5 Overall, not 4.0. Anyway, it's working now. Thanks for the help — I learn something new everyday.

Yep. Although I do rib my "Criterion can do no wrong" collector friends, you have to give them that they pioneered the idea of adding serious value to home video presentations. If they could have patented feature commentaries as a concept, they'd be billionaires several times over.

If Criterion want some more titles they should nab and release Lee Isaac Chung's three earlier films: Munyurangabo, Lucky Life and Abigail Harm. It would make a nice box set in time for any of his new films that come out either this year or next.

EDIT: I know Film Movement have rights to his earlier work but if they won't do anything with them then why not a more trusted company who would more likely release them?

I see what you mean. I saw the Overall score pop in at the bottom of the score list when I hit the Blu-ray review tab, but didn't notice the Movie score pop in at the top. I had thought the original post about the movie score referred to the overall score.

Yup. I mean, for a decade and a half, they were the only boutique in town, the only ones who said, you know, it's going to cost a small fortune to restore the films to the best possible quality, creating tons of supplements, and mastering it for a pricey and finicky format, because we believe that film lovers are committed enough to spend up to $125 in 1985 dollars to see it done right. It was a much bigger gamble then than it is now, and they deserve all the credit in the world for that.

Somehow I glossed over this post until amputd mentioned it. I will say that I am really, really excited for this one. There has already been a French 4K UHD release of this and the screenshots I have seen of them were pretty amazing.

Easily beats the 2K Pathe restoration, which fortunately never made it into the North American markets.

I see that Janus also has Med Hondo's "Soleil O" and "Sarraounia", as well.

Perhaps we'll get a Criterion box set of Hondo's work at some point, similar to the Sembene set.
