Well...this should be interesting.

Accordingly to the book in the Arrow 4K, that was a 4K scan/restoration/master, off the neg, with Gilliam overseeing the entire process. Perhaps they couldn’t get the rights to the Arrow transfer so they had to do their own? Or was something really wrong with the Arrow transfer that Gilliam saw necessary to fix?

Edit: Per the review on this site, Kenneth Brown did the Universal Blu-ray from 2010, Svet did the Criterion Blu-ray from 2011, and Jeffrey Kauffman did the two Arrow discs from 2023. With Svet getting 99% of the Criterion discs, unless he has the Arrow discs laying around (or FaL gets passed to JK), we’re going to have a really hard time getting a true comparison on this one.

There is a different artist on the other side of the cover (?). Artwork done by Tony Stella, who has done the artwork for a lot of Eureka releases.
No disrespect to Tony Stella, but if you have Junji Ito doing the art why bother with alternate art on the back side of the box?

Don't think it's on the back. Based on Le Chat Qui Fume's posts, the Ito art appears to be the outer box, while the Stella is for the Digipak inside.

Still. Unless it is a box set like Godzilla or Zatoichi, I'm not a fan of mixing artists. I think you should pick one and stick to that aesthetic throughout the whole package.

These are two of my favorite films. I loved both of these a great deal. If these films can get new 4K restorations, that would be something special, indeed. Great news for the Criterion Collection.

I hope they get the rest of Béla Tarr’s pre Damnation projects. Specifically his Macbeth! Excited about The Man From London!

Of course this is the Assayas they get! Release ones that I didn’t already import from France!

Come on Golden Eighties! Give me more Akerman!

Rest in peace M. Emmitt Walsh! Thank you for making me laugh and always surprising me!

From Raising Arizona:

Machine Shop Ear-Bender: So we were doin' paramedical work in affiliation with the state highway system. Not actual practice, you understand. And me & Bill were patrolling down Nine Miles.

H.I.: Bill Roberts?

Machine Shop Ear-Bender: No, not that mother-scratcher. Bill Parker. Anyway, we're approaching the wreck, and there's this spherical object a restin' in the highway. And it's not a piece of the car.

I try to use "mother-scratcher" at least once a day in my normal goings on, and it's because of that line right there.

Wow, so Floating Clouds is getting a Blu-ray release in the UK. Hopefully, Criterion will release it also.

In case you didn't know: There are French Blu-ray releases of these films back in 2017 that come from 4K restorations. Screenshots are available on caps-a-holic.com

The difference between the color grading on the older Shout! release and the 4K restoration is HUGE

With Criterion releasing Blood Simple and Bound on 4K, perhaps they could consider Love Lies Bleeding (if A24 does not release it themselves):

A24 doesn't license out their titles. The only A24 film that came from Criterion was Uncut Gems, but that was at the request of the Safie Brothers, and licensed from Lionsgate, rather than A24. Besides Love Lies Bleeding, films like Problemista, and The Zone of Interest would fit well with Criterion too, but I have to imagine A24 will release all of them on BD/4K down the road.

Eggers' The Lighthouse had releases from both A24 and Arrow. I guess Arrow got the UK release. A24 partnered with Lionsgate UK in distributing Love Lies Bleeding, so I guess Arrow won't get that any time soon.

The UK release of The Lighthouse was licensed from Universal.

Speaking of A24, I really would hope there would be another 4K release of Stop Making Sense down the line. ~$70 (Minimum with shipping and tax included) for a 4K is insane. This is not a Second Sight Deluxe Edition either.

Nope. California. From what I've heard from others and looking at how much it would've cost for me, I see $70 as the cheapest that people have paid so far (I believe the AAA24 membership may take off $10 from I heard).

Oh wow, I had no idea it was that much. I thought it was like Pi, where there was some bundle with a book that may have inflated the price more, but they really are charging a lot more for that one than any other release.
