And it's been five years since a David Mamet film has been released.
An archive snapshot from 2021 shows the same picture unfortunately.

I think Criterion has some shorts, but can’t remember which.

I was 21 when Modern Times was released. Am now 34 (oh god) and still waiting on some Chaplin titles.

I recall hearing that Criterion were going to release his talkies in a boxset, then his shorts etc. The talkies boxset talk was from 10+ years ago.

It seems obvious to me that his films don't sell well enough to justify the effort. How many Lloyd films have they released since 2013? 4, including Safety Last and The Freshman?

The gap between releases is also getting bigger. Between 2013 and 2015, we got one film a year, but there was a 4 year gap between Speedy and The Kid Brother, which was released 5 years ago.

Can anybody tell me if ther eis a real difference between older Criterion titles and new ones? Do the new ones have less additionnal content? Im asking because they release a lot of recent movies and i heard many things.

Are you strictly referring to the included extras? If so, it varies per release regardless of how old a film may or may not be.

It should be noted that their newer Janus Contemporaries line, featuring films still in cinemas, are pretty barebones on what is included.

I don't know when it will be announced but I imagine a future title will be Chungking Express 4K. I sure hope so because it's one of my favorites!

My dream list:

The Unbearable Lightness of Being 4K
Working Girl 4K (with deleted scenes including stuff we can still see in the trailers)
Crooklyn 4K (I enjoy the Kino Lorber disc but it's the 30th anniversary this year)
Peggy Sue Got Married 4K
Raise the Red Lantern

Simply dreaming: Criterion and Madonna coming together to compile her videos in 4K format. Ditto with Bowie's estate.

Didn’t they show it a year or two ago at the TCM Film Festival? I remember thinking it wouldn’t be too long till a Criterion upgrade. After a while I even bought the dvd to ensure it would happen. Obviously it didn’t.

What I wouldn't give for a Criterion 4K of that.

North by Northwest would be excellent and makes sense for July. The other big WB title Criterion allegedly has, Amadeus, would then be slated for November is my guess.

I'll gladly take the Doinel set in 4K. I think another title that might be released is The Wages of Fear UHD.

The last two years Criterion has released a Scorsese film in July. Maybe we’ll get Killers of the Flower Moon this year?

If we have a Scorsese again, I would love for it to be Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore…

I was going to add that to my predictions list too, but I'm just not sure if Apple are willing to license to Criterion or not (Velvet Underground wsa licensed from Polygram apparently). I'm still hoping Criterion can get CODA from them.

Peter Greenaway's The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989) opens at IFC Center on June 7th. Criterion are said to have this one, so with it being the film's 25th anniversary, we'll hopefully see a BD / 4K later this year.

Trouble In Paradise still has only that one still on its page, so it's probably not coming

And while I would like an individual release but I doubt it would get one, they should tack on Who's That Knocking at My Door.
