By the Time it Gets Dark.

There's another Thai film about the same period from around 2000 but I can't remember what it's called.

A campy student protest film is R.P.M. (1970), starring Anthony Quinn as the college president and "juvenile' Gary Lockwood as a campus agitator.

It’s shocking to me that Shoeshine isn’t in the Collection.

I would love Shoeshine, Two Women and The Children are Watch Us to get releases.

I expect we'll see it released on BD this year. Unlike the other listings posted, the Janus page for Shoeshine lists Blu-ray as an available format, and also includes a press notes PDF file. Not necessarily a perfect indication of an impending release, as it's meant to indicate the film being available to screen via Blu-ray, but nearly every listing with BD as a format has been released on BD, or likely coming soon.

(I think Ozu's Late Autumn is one of the few listings that had Blu-ray as an available format for years without an actual home video BD release)

Regular Lovers/Les amants réguliers (2005) by Philippe Garrel, with his son Louis Garrel and Clotilde Hesme in the leads, is specifically about the french student riots.

Also The Dreamers (2003) by Bernardo Bertolucci covers some of the same events.

Both are available on good UK R2 DVDs with English subs.

A student protest forms an important subplot of Getting Straight (1970).

I enjoyed the The Strawberry Statement which is loosely based on the Columbia University protests of 1968.

Haha, some of these were actually filmed a while back. That latest one with Manuel was from last July!

Speaking of that, what was the story of the two different cuts on the WAC burner DVD? And which of those cuts is on my Big Box tape?

What Criterion told me a few years ago was that if the code, 'BVDL' DOES NOT appear on the data side inner ring, the disc is in danger of going belly up, and that I should send those discs in for replacement, even if they currently work. Now, that was a few years ago, so one should confirm with them if one owns such discs, in case their thinking has changed on this.
Even though I got as far as the menu on most of my Criterion Blu-rays when I tested them all the other day, I decided to go back and look at them all. I used my best desk lamp and went to work. On most of them the BVDL was very easy to spot but I found a few that are either missing the BVDL text and a few with the tiniest of text that I was unable to spot the BVDL text.

The second to last set in my Criterion Collection is Yojimbo / Sanjuro, both discs appeared to be missing the BVDL. Ok, this is now a big deal.
I watched Yojimbo last night and it was PERFECT. Sanjuro will go in tonight and I have decided to watch any of them that I feel the BVDL text was questionable. After watching Yojimbo last night I also realized that this work was not work in the slightest.

Criterion did the wrong 'Funny Games'. The 2007 remake should have gotten the treatment. The acting is more convincing.
