I remember I thought Criterion was like the Hall of Fame of movies. I wish they'd have some delay between when a movie is released and when it's released in the collection. That way we can know if the movie really stands the test of time. But I guess All of Us Strangers from last year got fast tracked to classic status probably because Criterion panders. If that's the case, then that just cheapens the concept of this whole collection being something special.

All of Us Strangers was my #1 movie last year. It’s terrific and deserves to be in the Collection.

The 1999 edition is just about 90 MBs smaller in size and contains a different disc label (SEVEN_SAMURAI_1217 compared to UNDEFINED). After a quick glance, I don't see the demo hiding anywhere on the 1999 disc.

There are 404ed Janus phantom pages for Nocturnal Uproar and Dirty Like an Angel.

I assume the remaining Breillat films not yet accounted for are also on the website, but I can't validate them.

Janus also has Cute Girl, The Boys from Fengkuei, and The Green, Green Grass of Home.

I had compiled a similar list several years ago, but had not kept it updated. Furthermore, Janus updated their website during that time, making it nearly impossible (or so I thought) to identify phantom pages.

I was only going to publish the active pages, with a disclaimer about what phantom pages had existed years ago. But yesterday I discovered that you can still search for some films that are hidden. As such, I have included separate links with everything I managed to find in order to support their entries.

If anyone is capable of filling in the gaps, I'd greatly appreciate it! Merely type a film's title (or original language title) in the search box and filter it by "list" instead of "grid." Every once in a while you'll be able to find something. The same applies to directors.

No, any pricing fluctuations won't be relevant, as the 50% is taken off the MSRP, which has remained constant (generally $39.99 for Blu-ray $49.99 for 4K, higher if more discs are included).

Does anyone know what's up with Criterion's Blu-ray of BABETTE'S FEAST (1987)?

I ask because, for the last year or so, every time there's either a Barnes & Noble 50% off sale, or a flash sale on Criterion's website, the Blu-ray edition always seems to be listed as "temporarily out of stock" (Barnes & Noble) or "currently unavailable" (Criterion's website). This also appears to be true when no sale is in effect (I've checked). Meanwhile, the Criterion DVD edition of BABETTE'S FEAST is (and has been) readily available at both websites.

What's odd about this is that it's not listed as "out of print" on the Criterion site, unlike, say, Criterion's editions of John Woo's THE KILLER, ROSEMARY'S BABY or HAROLD AND MAUDE.

Usually that indicates they're out of inventory, and more need to be printed. That is a long time though. You should contact them at mulvaney@criterion.com to inquire further.

Janus Films has picked up North American rights to four of Mexican filmmaker Carlos Reygadas’ features including a restored version of Battle in Heaven ahead of its world premiere in Berlin’s Classics Special.

Other titles in the deal with Coproduction Office include the 2002 Camera d’Or-winning debut feature Japon, 2007 Cannes Jury prize-winning Silent Light whose restoration is planned for later in 2024, and 2012 Cannes best director award-winning Post Tenebras Lux.

Battle in Heaven will screen in 4K resolution with Dolby Atmos sound.

The provocative film is about a driver haunted by the kidnap of a child.
