I'd love to see DEVIL DOLL released on Blu-ray. The old Image DVD contained both the US and the spicier European editions of the film.
You are correct! Bryant Haliday co-founded Janus films in 1956 so it would be nice to see Criterion honor him as one of its founders.

Criterion could do Speed Racer as an example of a film being a living embodiment of an anime show, if Warner would let them, and supplied original materials to work with.

I'd much rather get Speed Racer or Cloud Atlas personally. Don't think either of them are "Criterion-able" though

I could vision Arrow having Speed Racer.

Coming up on a year since its theatrical release, let's hope we get a Killers of the Flower Moon announcement in the near future...

Well, I got the last Criterion I wanted ordered from Amazon (Mishima). Shame the delivery date is "July 26-Aug 5." But hey, 50% off.

What are thoughts on this film? Has never really been on my want list, but I watched a clip recently and it seemed intriguing (and different than what I expected).

Any good comparisons? Or what sort of viewer would it most appeal to?

I haven't seen it, it's a blind buy for me. I picked it out based on the screenshots on criterion's website haha.

Great film that playfully adapts 3 of the titular author’s works as well as borrowing from a fourth with a background of his life and death. You don’t need to know anything about the man to enjoy the movie. The score from Philip Glass is beautiful and used in many movies after. The true highlight is the set design from the adaptation sections by Eikoh Ishioka, who later worked on the costume design in Dracula and directed music videos for Bjork. Great blind buy.

There is also a great commentary track with Paul Schrader on the Blu-ray too.

Thanks for the feedback, sounds interesting. I'll put it on my list for a future sale, my list is too expensive already this month!

I've honestly never seen AOUS, I just heard it was great. The way my mind works, I was more stoked they pulled a movie out from under the mouse's ass than I was moved on the content either way. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Then again, movement on a Disney-owned title is so big that almost any title could make my day. Criterion could do a 4K of Strange World and I'd probably still do a backflip.

The $64,000 question is whether or not Cuckterion has seen AOUS. That's what I'd like to know.

As someone who endured the trend of bashing Gone With The Wind in 2020 by people who hadn't seen it, and as someone who's personally been called a rapist for liking A Clockwork Orange and a psychopath for liking Natural Born Killers by people who hadn't seen either of them, I really get my feathers ruffled when someone who hasn't seen a movie decides to pontificate and tell me what a certain film is or isn't, and that's putting it nicely.

Cuckterion, ball's in your court.

Only a few days to go before the October (hopefully full of horror) slate is revealed. I'm trying really hard to will Demon Pond into happening. If not Demon Pond, then Goke Body Snatcher From Hell or Jigoku. Knowing my luck it will probably House getting a 4K upgrade which people will be happy about, but I'm pretty content with the current Blu-ray.

I would love Demon Pond at the very least, but I don't have much hope of any JP horrors coming form them for October. Radiance at least is delivering there.

The only thing that's giving me some hope is that Demon Pond might happen is that it's not on their streaming channel. They sometimes save some of their big titles that they acquired to debut on disc first. Even then though it doesn't mean it will debut in October, but it sure would be nice.

I think the Mr. Vampire series and/or Encounters of the Spooky Kind are more likely than any Japanese horror titles. (On the other hand, I have seen some signs that Eastern Condors might finally be happening, even though it hasn't explicitly been mentioned/posted that it is in the works, I'm being vague 'cause I don't want anyone to gt in trouble.)

Encounters would be great. It wouldn't be the first time they released something Eureka had previously for region B. Criterion's Cure release came 3 years after Eureka's and it's been 3 years since they released Encounters. It would be even better if they also released the second one.
