No kidding! Actually had that pop in my head randomly last week as one of the titles this month. Hope I'm right about that.

I know the old Blus of EWS and Lolita are OOP. There may be DVDs still in print, but they're more there for those multi-film sets that pop up every now and then. The only store where I saw new standalones of either title is B&N, and that was years ago.

If I'm not mistaken, they're all now under Disney control

this might be a stupid question, but where exactly have people heard/seen these rumors? other than Janus occasionally posting Twin Peaks-related images, i've never really seen an indication this is happening. i would absolutely love it to (and i'd sell my soul to get my hands on a copy), but 48 episodes of TV, the original pilot, FWWM, and The Missing Pieces on 4K UHD is a huge ask, and idk the likelihood of Criterion doing something like that.

I personally have never heard hard rumors, I just put in my own two cents that between the series' popularity, its relatively short run, its content, and Lynch's long-running relationship with Criterion, it was a likely candidate for eventual inclusion.

As far as I know, it would be only the third or fourth TV series (depending on how you count Tanner '88) to get included in the now 2,000-title Collection.

Nothing from Japan either (five months now)
We ARE, in fact, getting some Scorsese, but I'm unsure which one
I think something Lynch, but I'm unsure which one (Twin Peaks will eventually happen, we just don't know when)

With Pandora's Box covering Classic Hollywood
[Show spoiler], BL covering WB, and Scorsese covering the modern classics, unfortunately that's where my brain caps out this month. The rest of the titles are just "here's what I'd like them to release" titles.

I think the realistic one I want most of all is Brazil on 4K with all three cuts, and the unrealistic one I want most of all is the uncut version of The Devils (which is allegedly on the Criterion Channel, anyone know anything?).

1. Michael Bay would be most welcome in the Collection. His movies are admittedly weak when the gunshots and explosions die down, but they're still entertaining as hell. The Rock and Armageddon would be welcome back, and Pearl Harbor would be newly welcome, should they ever show up.

Even though the other, non-explosive 80% of Armageddon and Pearl Harbor suck.

2. Plan 9 is a film with such a stature that I can seriously say it has a chance of getting into the Collection.

-It has a notable status as "the worst film ever made". (Heaven's Gate had/has that title too.)
-It's notoriously PD, and even the "restored" releases leave a lot to be desired. (Criterion has released tons of PD titles in the past, including It's A Wonderful Life back in the laserdisc days and Night Of The Living Dead recently.)
-It's a popular cult film, even if 99% of the audience is watching it to laugh at how terrible it is. (They released Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls, ffs.)
-There's few new people finding Plan 9, which means it's a film that they can reintroduce to a new generation, thereby getting more money than they could by selling it to the people who already bought copies in the past.
-Between its stature and the lack of decent copies available, it has a strong chance of making them a lot of money.

I would be neither shocked nor surprised if Plan 9 From Outer Space gets into the Collection, and I would buy it.
Places other than Hollywood made movies. Why do you call it "Classic Hollywood"?

Yep, thanks - I saw those concerns. But I've viewed the disc and was happy with the picture (even if it wasn't a massive improvement). In general, I don't get as worked up over "revisionism" or other common PQ complaints when a film gets reworked.

As I mentioned, I was perfectly fine with the BD before this option was available. And I'll still be keeping my old copy, since it's the digipack version with the Lindsay novel. So I'll always have the old, unmodified version available if I want it

that makes sense, although part of me feels like they'd prioritize getting the other films in the collection first (sans Dune) before going after TP. again, i'd love for it to happen (and i'm sure David and his team would as well). just wonder how much of a priority or challenge it would be for Criterion (even with more capital on hand since their sale to
Indian Paintbrush).

As others have mentioned, I would really like to see Demon Pond announced today. Also, where is I Know Where I'm Going?

The Earings of Madame De has been mentioned. I have the BFI release and it's quite nice.

I've been really picky about which ones I'm re-buying in 4K, but I hope that we will see the inevitable announcement for the Paris, Texas UHD, especially since the new restoration has been making the rounds lately.

As for new titles, still hoping for:

-Baby Face
-A Woman of Paris (and any other Chaplin. There are not so great ones like A King in New York left to release, but also the Chaplin Revue)
-The Straight Story
-Minnie and Moskowitz

Aren't July announcements for October usually horror-themed for Halloween? It'd be awesome if Criterion got the rights to the Mario Bava films that Kino lost. Or Romero's Dawn of the Dead.

I didn't say it was, I said it was close enough that Criterion would assume that base was covered this month. I know places other than Hollywood made movies, and I know this is one of the films made somewhere other than Hollywood. (Germany, in fact.)

For Criterion to decide that Pandora's Box was the Classic Hollywood title for the month wouldn't even almost be the craziest news I've heard from the boutiques.

I remember a ways back there was a picture of Kyle in the Criterion office and the post said something like "you'll see why soon" with a picture of a coffee cup. I don't think the FWWM 4K had a new interview with him?

The Devils is somewhat horror-themed, in time for Halloween.

An expensive set like that would likely drop in either July or November for the sales. I think they sit there and consider the sales when deciding on their MSRPs and their release dates.

Surely today is the day? No holidays. Beginning of the week. It's actually the 15th. Surely we see announcements today? Right?

i could definitely see a FWWM upgrade happening. i Googled Kyle's visit and the post they made about it was probably tied to him doing a Criterion Closet video back in August or September 2022. idk if he had any projects releasing around that time, but if not, maybe it could've been tied to Twin Peaks?
