Maybe he wanted Wages for the extras or, big shocker, not everyone has a region free player and/or a UHD player.

Maybe not the community as a whole. But it is a shocker that the people who buy hundreds of Criterions don't have a regionless or 4K player though......

Don't make me the catalyst for an argument, I just like movies with Cs on the cover.

One has to remember that this community and us here are a niche. The major issue with the Criterion Wages of Fear is, isn't it a shorter cut than the BFI?

Yes and the print is far inferior.

The biggest jump, IMO, from across the pond is La Belle et la Bête. The BFI is vastly superior, (the scene where the father is lost in the forest during the storm is a great example) you don't even need to be somebody who's looking very hard. A casual viewer can spot it.

Yes, the BFI is a slightly longer cut. Of course the Criterion disc is 15 years old at this point.(jesus)

Yeah I watched Shaft on Wednesday it's a classic one of the best African American films of all time, and one of the greatest films of the 70s. Also the art on the cover is phenomenal it was done by the guy who did the art for the Shaft comics its so so good Criterion did a fantastic job on the artwork.

I think the old BFI blu ray of Wages was already better than Criterions release.

Wait there is an older BFI Blu-ray? I thought they only released it on Blu when they got the 4K restoration a couple of years ago. The only two entries here for a BFI release are the 2017 Blu-ray from a 4K restoration and the recent UHD from the same restoration.

That is correct. The extended footage was discovered during the 4K restoration process. There was no Blu-ray older than the 2017 version. The only way Criterion will get the extended cut in the US is by releasing the UHD, which I wouldn't be surprised if they're working on it at the moment.

Speaking of Wages, Les Diaboliques also has a 4K restoration a few years ago though we have yet to see a release of this outside of China and France so far. Hoping to see this one soon.

Not exactly, it was always part of the film in France, just other countries that had the censored version. The French DVD from 2001 had the extra parts intact.

Again, the Criterion disc came out 8 years before the BFI Blu-ray. It would have been a major fail if the BFI disc looked worse than the old Criterion Blu.

I Know Where I'm Going is on TCM right now. Pretty sure this is the restoration from last year. Had the Criterion logo play in front of the movie, if that's a good sign.

Well looks like Umbrella is releasing Eyes Without a Face in 4K UHD I really need to pick up that release from Umbrella as I’ve never seen the movie before. It’s a classic horror film that has been on my backlog for so long. I don’t know if I’ll get the Criterion release honestly even if Criterion releases the 4K UHD next year I’ll be good with the Umbrella release. Umbrellas becoming one of my favorite boutique labels more and more. I saw their November slate and it looks freaking amazing. That being said, Criterion’s releasing a lot of great stuff this year too.

I'll raise 'Eyes Without a Face' with Pedro Almodavar's 'The Skin I Live In' from 2011, it's blu ray is now out of print. Heavily inspired by 'Eyes'

I’m honestly surprised Criterion didn’t put it out in 4K UHD for October it would’ve made a lot of sense, but I have a strong feeling we’ll get it next month, or in December. Still it looks like this new 4K restoration is getting more and more attention just like with the 4K restoration of Peeping Tom so I have a strong feeling it’s coming very very soon.
