I hope we get Young Frankenstein on UHD this year. It would be amazing news regarding Disney licensing Fox titles to boutique labels, and there is a 4K restoration that's been making the rounds this year.

https://www.parkcircus.com/film/1159...g-Frankenstein

If not that, I hope for a Hitchcock UHD set with the new 4K restoration of Spellbound, and also using that as an opportunity to upgrade Rebecca and Notorious, whose blu-rays were sourced from 4K restorations and probably would have been on UHD already if Criterion was doing UHDs back then.

They can't do any more with NOTLD than they already have. I'm guessing they've licensed Dawn, which would be fantastic. Or maybe even all of Romero's Dead films.

If it's the 1990 NOTLD remake, I'd be happy about that as well. It's a great film.

I would be fine if they just rereleased their previous version of Chungking Express on standard Blu-ray.

…doesn’t have to be 4K.

We need Dawn, Day and the Night Remake for sure. I have the UK 4K release of Dawn but would double dip.

EDIT: That was sarcasm. Colorization is pure evil. Kill the black-and-white, kill the ghoul.

I think you’re right it would be a huge announcement for October I would definitely buy it myself day one as I don’t own the film physically yet. It could be a box set too of Day, the 1990 remake, and Dawn all at once a nice box set would make a lot of sense. Honestly, I think it’s just Dawn of the Dead separately still it’s going to be quite exciting getting more Romero stuff from Criterion.

The one time i returned from a scratch and they didn’t have another copy they gave me my money back in store. I’m sure you could also get store credit.

You can contact Criterion and ask for a replacement. Send pics of the scratches and tell them you have tried cleaning it. They may ask for a receipt and have you write your name on the scratched disc. After that they should send out a replacement.

Final haul from this summer's B&N Sale. No blind-buys this time, though I haven't seen Farewell, My Concubine in so long it might as well be.

Very nice. Farewell My Concubine is the director's cut too, so it's possible you haven't seen that version before too.

I just got back from seeing the new 70th Anniversary 4k Restoration. What a beautiful transfer. The best the film has ever looked. Nothing like seeing a Kurosawa masterpiece on the big screen. I hope I am lucky enough to see Throne of Blood, Ran, Kagemusha, Yojimbo, Sanjuro or Hidden Fortress in theaters. Can't wait for this film and the rest of his library in 4K from Criterion.

Bigger than Life is a blind-buy so excited to watch it. I love Nicholas Ray.

Nicholas Ray AND James Mason, with an excellent Walter Matthau in support.

One of the best 50s movies about the 50s.

Final Haul

Last 4 are pre-orders at 50% off price from local B&N. Even got the 10% membership discount on Zombie and Repo Man. All depends on which manager does the override.

Did a last minute sale purchase for The Last Picture Show. Promised my last pickup of Lone Star a couple weeks ago was the last, but really feel like rewatching it sooner than later.

Night of the Living Dead’s officially licensed FB page posted a picture of the Criterion logo and this message:

Something's coming. Watch this space.

Hard to say what that will be. Criterion has already released Night of the Living Dead on Blu-ray and 4K. Maybe they have the original Dawn and/or Martin? I know they’ve tried to license Dawn in the past.

Making one last haul all Japanese films of course plus one British film two of my titles are horror titles which I don’t own any horror physically from the Criterion Collection yet.

The Samurai trilogy good deal on this right now
Kwaidan
Three Outlaw Samurai
Peeping Tom

Three of these titles I have been eyeing for a couple of years now maybe longer.
