The Heiress is Clift's best film, but to be fair that's a de Havilland movie co-starring Clift. I highly recommend Criterion's release.
Still waiting for Warner Archive or Criterion to give us The Search. Judgment at Nuremberg is absolutely captivating...the intimidating running time will fly by. And in a sea of big name stars all delivering powerful performances, Clift steals the entire movie with his heartbreaking, 12-minute acting masterclass. Raintree County is a disaster. |

I wanted to say something about the “are people still buying DVD’s, and if not why?”discussion.
I was thinking that a lot of people who maybe used to buy dvds switched to buying digital movies, some that may be UHD. Both switching to bluray/4k and streaming UHD may be considered an upgrade to DVD for them. |

Both The Killers (1946) was heavily featured in a Universal video about their restorations:
https://www.nbcuniversal.com/article...ns%20to%20come Both the 1946 and '64 versions of The Killers were restored in 4K lin recent years, from The Film Foundation, so I wouldn't be surprised to see one, or both come to 4K from Criterion next year. Credit to James Luckard for first posting the link. Last edited by MifuneFan; 09-23-2024 at 12:42 AM. Reason: Unsure when restorations were done, so changed it to recent years instead. |

The Arrow release of Phantom Lady is going OOP, correct? We can probably expect for Kino to pick that one up in their next Universal deal, if Criterion doesn't first. Last edited by Areyakiddin; 09-22-2024 at 03:56 PM. |

Perhaps if you were to give it a second view, or read the book, you may have a different take. That's the beauty of art, revisiting a work to perhaps find something new or a different interpretation of the work, or yourself. |

If you haven't seen the above, watching them back to back is one way, but you could also make time for a triple-bill of the '64 version, followed by Point Blank from 1967, on Blu from WB, and 1972's Prime Cut, Blu or the new 4K, both from Kino. Lee Marvin in his prime? It's well worth it, even if he doesn't have it. For the '46 version, there are couple of ways you could go, but I'm partial to a double-bill with 1950's The Asphalt Jungle, also from Criterion. |

Indeed. Unfortunately there's a lot of films I like that aren't streamed nor sold digitally but usually available on DVD, luckily not that rarely on Blu-ray too.

edit: I did a little more digging, and I found this informative video with Cassandra Moore, VP of Mastering and Archive at Universal, and she talks in greater detail about the restoration of the two films. They were actually completed in 2018, and premiered at the Venice Film Festival that year. I'm not sure if any additional work has been done to them since. https://www.film-foundation.org/rsr-...re%20Interview Last edited by MifuneFan; 09-23-2024 at 12:57 AM. |

Talking about Siodmak, hopefully the Film Foundation can finally get Universal to get off their asses and get Christmas Holiday cleared for release (or whoever owns it now).

Good news, Sergei Parajanov's Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (1965) will be opening at Lincoln Center in October, courtesy of Janus Films, and sourced from a 4K restoration from The Film Foundation / World Cinema Project.
