Both the 1946 and '64 versions of The Killers were restored in 4K lin recent years, from The Film Foundation, so I wouldn't be surprised to see one, or both come to 4K from Criterion next year.

I circled back around at 3:30. The guy up front told me he waited 6 hours. They shut the line down a little while ago.

There's no way my anxiety would allow me to do the van closet visit especially with that line I'm wondering if they have any future releases in stock though I might be tempted if I could pick up Pandora's Box early

Criterion Collection will release more Johnnie To films in the future.
https://x.com/films_chameleon/status...48632735678696

Quote:
American film distribution company The Criterion Collection is one of the most widely referenced arbiters of taste in world cinema.

Rummaging through the Criterion “closet” – a fabled space at its headquarters in New York, which houses copies of films in its catalogue – has become a tradition for filmmakers, who pick and choose from shelves overflowing with Blu-ray discs and DVDs.
Fittingly, the closet is where the Post met Hong Kong director Johnnie To Kei-fung recently. “[Akira] Kurosawa, [Sam] Peckinpah, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Jean-Pierre Melville,” he says, pointing to his haul.

The company recently released a Blu-ray box set of The Heroic Trio, To’s 1993 fantasy action hit, and Executioners, its sequel; more To titles are on the way.

However, two of Johnnie To's biggest international successes "Election" and "Triad Election" are owned by Kino Lorber. Hoping that Criterion Collection can make deal with Kino Lorber to release them.

I went to see a movie near the Criterion Closet van today. It was raining all day, so there was no way I was going to stand out there for hours, but I took a few pictures of the scene from various vantage points.

Quote:

The have a screen on the side playing celebrity closet picks videos. That's the one with Channing Tatum, and Zoë Kravitz playing there.

Feel bad for the security guard standing out there in the rain with little protection. Someone get him a poncho or something!

The van is actually on the sidewalk if you couldn't tell from previous pictures. You can get a better indication of the line here too. Also, I just want to say, I love seeing the city when it rains.

The curtained entrance into the closet on the left / While waiting for the train, I saw two guys that just came from the closet. They had freshly-snapped polaroids in their hands, which they were still shaking to develop. It didn't seem like they had the tote bags, not sure if they ran out. The guy closest to me got all westerns: One-Eyed Jacks, Red River, and Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid 4K.

The introvert in me would run a mile from something that had a live feed of me on a giant screen outside for all to see

Sorry, I should have clarified better, they are showing celebrity closet vids on the screen. A live feed would indeed be mortifying to me too haha

On Saturday, after I got out of a screening a little after 9... there were still some people in (a much shorter) line. I figured I'd just wait and see what happens, not expecting to get in. They were telling people they were going to stop at 9:30. I stood there for a while and then they cut it off around 10 people ahead of me who were waiting something like 9 hours.

I did still get the free tote bag! I was also surprised that Criterion President, Peter Becker, was working the event. He came and apologized to people in line. He said they were overwhelmed by the response and didn't expect the turnout. I was thinking to myself really? You opened this up to the whole city! They could probably have a little boutique permanent "Closet Store" and they would make a killing.

You should have yelled "DukeTogo wants Hunter in the Dark and the other Hideo Gosha titles on Blu-ray!" at him.

That is brutal for those that waited in line for 9 hours, especially in the rain. I don't have a fraction of that kind of patience lol. Nice they didn't go home completely empty handed, I suppose.

Raphael Geroni does some of the nicest packaging designs for Criterion in my opinion. His custom font work are, in my opinion, the best of any artist that Criterion regularly uses.

A brief look at a few of his past commissions for CC:

He's also responsible for the Fellini set which is full of custom fonts and outside of the disc slots I personally think it was a home run. Great artist.

The illustrations for the Fellini set and the Munchausen release were done by Abigail Giuseppe, with Geroni doing the design and fonts.

Right, he usually does the overall package designs, and font/typography, while any illustrative work is usually handled by another artist. His cover for Polyester for instance also had an illustration from Sam Hadley
