Nice. Great location. I was there a few weeks ago for the Transit Museum's Vintage Bus festival, which was really fun.

Is there a list of titles Criterion is rumored to have? I see people all time saying "(random movie) is with Criterion, they're just sitting on it doing nothing with it" and I was just wondering if there's a list of these supposed titles.

As an example... here is a list of WB titles from 7 years ago: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...stcount=163970

Some of these were only released this year.

Criterion Forum keeps a list: https://www.criterionforum.org/forum...2a0a3c6b72f3d7

DVDBeaver review of Pandora's Box. Huge improvement over Eureka's release. The coins which were digitally scrubbed in that release are now back.

Either next Tuesday, or the following one. As mentioned by others, next Tuesday would also likely be announcement day, so they might wait till the 22nd instead. Either that, or the announcements or sale may happen on a different day next week (e.g. Announcements Tuesday, Flash sale Wednesday or vice-versa).

Sean Baker's Prince of Broadway Criterion was mentioned at some of the Anora Q&As this past weekend in LA. Let's hope we also get an Anora Criterion!

SHADOWS OF FORGOTTEN ANCESTORS (1965) - Directed By Sergei Parajanov

https://www.janusfilms.com/films/2234

Quote:
Widely considered the most important film in the history of Ukranian cinema, Sergei Parajanov’s Shadows of Our Forgotten Ancestors is a masterwork that boldly combines folkloric pageantry, fairy tale mysticism, and frenetic, hallucinatory cinematography. Adapted from Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky’s novel, Shadows tells the story of Ivan (Ivan Mykolaichuk), a young Hutsul peasant who witnesses his father’s murder by the local miser. Years later, Ivan falls in love with the miser’s daughter, Marichka (Larisa Kadochnikova), but her shocking death leaves him wallowing in grief until he meets Palahna (Tatyana Bestayeva), a beautiful woman who seems to restore his faith in life and hope for the future. When the ghost of Marichka begins to haunt Ivan, however, Palahna is driven into the arms of the local sorcerer (Spartak Bagashvili), with tragic results. Shadows is steeped in the earthy atmosphere of the Carpathian mountains; filmed by Parajanov and cinematographer Yuri Ilyenko with an eye for constantly innovative camera movements and vivid color; and suffused by Hutsul culture in the form of composer Myroslav Skoryk’s collage-like score, which brings together Ukrainian folk melodies with modernist, experimental orchestration. It is one of cinema’s singular productions, capturing the spiritual majesty of the past by creatively forging the medium’s future.

I know back before Take Out came out, it was announced that Criterion got all 3 of his earliest films, and I don't recall 100% where I saw it--I think Sean Baker said it on twitter himself, though, iirc--but earlier this year he said that the other two would be coming out in "early 2025"

Do you guys think Il posto and I fidanzati are likely upgrades soon? Asking because of the Radiance announcement today.

Don't mind importing, but just curious if criterion may offer these too since there are new restorations

The Radiance release is listed as being region-free, so I would guess no.

I'm still wondering if this will finally be the full Japanese version or the cut international one. I prefer Fires on the Plain as a more powerful WWII statement, so if this is the international version I can live with the old Eureka (MoC) Blu-ray.

It's still be the 116 min version. Do you know if the longer 2-part version still exists? So many studios back in the day were very careless with their negatives, so I'm wondering if the 143 min cut exists still, or if the elements are good enough to do any kind of restoration.

FWIW, region-free releases in other regions don’t at all prevent releases in other regions. If anything, for a label that releases everything available in both UK/US, it implies that the rights were unattainable in the US. This could be due to a future release from another label or a myriad of other reasons such as the cost of a license for a region, a different licensor all together, or a label squatting on the rights (as Criterion often does due to their immense library and modest release schedule).

Not gonna lie I've decided to avoid the Criterion flash sale as I don't really need anything immediately from that label at the moment. I already have that two film Val Lewton Blu-Ray coming tomorrow along with Demon Pond next week. I think I'll wait to buy anymore Criterion titles as I only have four other titles I'm buying this month two of them being Vinegar Syndrome titles, and the other two being Radiance titles.

It's not like Happiness, The Long Good Friday, Repo Man, Malcolm X, and Menace II Society are going anywhere anytime soon. Along with Branded to Kill, and The Human Condition
