This is a really great line-up for January. Winchester '73 is long overdue, and I'm beyond thrilled to see Yojimbo and Sanjuro get 4K releases. Further signs that Criterion and Toho are playing nice too.

hah, I didn't even realize it was a 4K too. I had just assumed it was a BD release.

Yeah, probably the most Toho titles they have released in a long while. I do hope they start upgrading ones that didn't have BD's like Red Beard etc, but it seems like they want to get his greatest hits out first. Wouldn't be surprised if Ikiru, Throne of Blood, Hidden Fortress will be next.

Well it looks like the UK rights for The M+W are with Janus, so I’ll wait for the UK Criterion. Nothing else for me on day one this month. Although Carlotta’s Eustache boxset is quite impressive too, even though it’s only Blu-ray, but the encodes are probably FiM, so they should hold their own next to a Criterion 4K SDR release.

I feel pretty certain Ikiru is next. The 4k restoration has been touring this year IIRC.

I think we can safely say that a Kurosawa box set is not happening, but I’m glad we’re getting individual 4K releases.

January 2025 is starting off with some nice releases!

What a shockingly disappointing month, in my humble opinion. Not a bad month, just disappointing. I was really hoping for an expansive and wonderful all in one Jean Eustache box set. That would have been a sufficient bang to open 2025 with.

3 films that are new to blu-ray/4K so that makes it a pretty decent month although I have no interest in Jo Jo Dancer.

The Queen seems to already have had many releases, and I was underwhelmed by Dangerous Liaisons (in some ways I preferred Valmont).

I love the zaniness of Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling so I'm glad to see it get a release, and a 4K at that. I can say I never would've expected to see a 4K of it, nor Criterion releasing that 4K.
