While I disagree with you, I think I understand where you come from. There are lots of DVD-only films (and sometimes not even that) that I would like to see on blu-ray too. I mean, I'm a huge silent film fan, there's a ton of silent classics that are still stuck on awful quality bootleg DVDs/VHS.

But sometimes you don't get the films you're waiting for, that's just how it is. I got super excited when I saw Criterion's announcements last month, I've been waiting for stuff like "Winchester '73" and "The Mother and The *****" forever! Today's batch of announcements is not as exciting for me personally, but paraphrasing the star of "Performance", "You can't always get what you want". Nowadays there are more great home media labels than ever, you just need to have patience.

It’s not about any kinds of release. Okay, I don’t need Punch Drunk Love or Cronos upgrade. But getting more Joan Micklin Silver in the collection, which means way more people are going to discover her? That’s major. Performance with the original soundtrack (not to mention it’s FRIGGING NIC ROEG) is a major get.

Also, you know, most of the classic films ppl clamor for in Criterion had PERFECTLY SERVICEABLE DVDS and no one gave two shakes about it. The Philadelphia Story? No problem. Why did we need BD? Well, you know — why not? It’s about building a library. If you’re in the collection, the chances of your film being discovered are *exponentially* greater. That’s kind of the whole point of the thing.

For some reason, 4k is driving certain people insane.

It will be 8 years between Tom Luddy saying Criterion was going to release this and the actually release.

Yeah, it clearly was that it was something that they just had not done, but now that they have I guess the speculation of what the boutiques have has expanded.

Performance really needed a new US disc because WAC screwed up and used the dubbed US audio instead of the original UK audio (this, I think, was fixed for the UK release.)

King Lear finally!

I'm in for Performance and Drugstore Cowboy too. Glad I held out on the Imprint release of the latter.

I think some of use wouldn’t be surprised if you put together a homemade samurai armor and just tried to storm them. Demanding they release only Japanese movies until you’re satisfied.

Meh from me too. I don't need retreads aka movies that other labels have already put out. The only great thing is it's another month without any of those awful Samurai films from Japan.

I just want Criterion to put out the films that I specifically want.

Don’t cheap out on the armor. Temu is no place to order from you want to make sure it’s good quality and won’t disintegrate.

Default Watch Out For Those Hexes

Punch Drunk Love [Own (CC4)] I'm good.
King Lear Nice, but no need to own.
Crossing Delancey Enjoyable watch and a bit of nostalgia for a LES/NYC which no longer exists. New master? Feeling stuck on the traffic median.
Drugstore Cowboy [Own (Imprint)] New master? Dope fiends and nymphos? You need to ask?
Performance [Own (WAC)] New, corrected master? Thanks, but I'm not sure I need to watch this again.
Cronos [Own (Criterion GDT Blu box set)] New master? Thanks, but I'm good.

Just Drugstore Cowboy and a vial of some pharma grade for me. Unless, of course, someone leaves a hat on the bed. In that case, all bets are off.

I'd 100% get Drugstore Cowboy if i didn't already have the Imprint edition. One of the greatest movies of the 1980s!

I think I'll pick up CROSSING DELANCEY in February, but wait until the next half-off sale for PUNCH DRUNK LOVE. Both good films.

I'm not a fan of DRUGSTORE COWBOY, but I recall from a number of years ago that the real-life Drugstore Cowboy was arrested about five or six blocks away from the townhouse where I was living then. He attempted to rob a pharmacy that I patronized from time to time in Redmond, Washington.

Just the Anderson for me (only because I want to rewatch it on something other than my DVD); the Godard would've been a no-brainer if I still did blind-buys.

I actually feel similar sentiments to Duke, but in the opposite direction for the Sony films. Every time Sony announces a Columbia Classics set with a title currently licensed to boutique label I feel it's taking away a coveted slot that could go to any one of thousands of other films in Sony's catalog. Since these sets come out so infrequently, and with as few as 6 films, filling them with stuff already licensed to a boutique just feels like a waste. Especially now that Criterion is putting out individual releases of some now too.

I also don't like the fact that those sets go OOP, so if you missed out one getting them, there's really no other option besides paying big bucks on the resale market, or hoping Sony does a re-release (like Taxi Driver, and Lawrence of Arabia). For instance, there is no way to get Anatomy of a Murder on 4K easily since Vol. 2 is OOP.
