Good news, Sean Baker's Starlet (2012) was just added to Janus' site. This wasn't one of the films that were previously confirmed to be with Janus/Criterion. Prince of Broadway, and Four Letter Words also now have pages up. A box set is looking more and more likely.

Starlet - Directed by Sean Baker United States, 2012

https://www.janusfilms.com/films/2243

Quote:
In the sun-saturated San Fernando Valley, adult-film star Jane, a.k.a. Tess Steele (Dree Hemingway), hits the jackpot when she discovers several thousand dollars inside a thermos purchased at an elderly woman’s yard sale. After splurging on accessories and a manicure, Jane—racked by guilt—offers to assist the old widow, Sadie (Besedka Johnson), with shopping and other chores. Sensing a disruption of her comfortable solitude, Sadie tries fending off Jane’s overtures of friendship, but each gradually find in the other the loving relationship missing from their lives. As the pair’s mother-daughter bond deepens, however,” Jane risks alienating her friend, roommate, and colleague Melissa (Stella Maeve). Once again focusing on those at the margins of society and capturing the details of an overlooked profession director Sean Baker elicits revelatory performances from Hemingway (daughter of Mariel and great-granddaughter of Ernest) and the eighty-five-year-old Johnson (in her first and only screen role) for a profound, comic, and beautifully crafted story about the possibility of connection in a world of artifice and isolation.
Four Letter Words - Directed by Sean Baker United States, 2000

https://www.janusfilms.com/films/2232

Quote:
Sean Baker’s feature debut is an acerbic, hilarious portrait of college-aged men unwilling to jettison the raucous immaturity of adolescence. It’s three in the morning as a group of friends, on break from their respective universities, let loose at a house party in suburban New Jersey, where beer, weed, and sex talk flow freely. Over the course of the night, simmering rivalries explode when pothead Sam (Henry Beylin) attacks the arrogant Jay (Matthew Dawson) over an ugly ethnic slur, and lady-killer Alex (Vincent Radwinsky) baits the jealous Drew (Edward Coyne) for his nerdy proclivities. Party host Art (Fred Berman) is left to clean up the wreckage from these various disasters (especially after a round of “Coca-Cola baseball”) as musician Noah (David Prete) chides him for not following his father’s footsteps into the corporate world. Reminiscent of early Kevin Smith or Richard Linklater, Four Letter Words raises the bar for the indie hangout film through Baker’s re-creation of the unique patois of the North American undergraduate male—an absurd mix of vulgarity, braggadocio, and (every so often) glimmers of self-awareness.
Prince of Broadway - Directed by Sean Baker United States, 2008

https://www.janusfilms.com/films/2233

Quote:
Staking out territory on the cold winter streets of midtown Manhattan, West African immigrant Lucky (Prince Adu) uses the gift of gab and a hustler’s shrewdness to peddle designer knockoffs for Lebanese store owner Levon (Karren Karagulian). One day, a long-forgotten ex named Linda (Kat Sanchez) delivers shocking news: years ago she had Lucky’s baby (Aiden Noesi) and now needs him to tend the toddler for several weeks—though Lucky suspects she’s using him to completely abdicate her parental responsibilities. Now Lucky must figure out how to become a father overnight without losing his girlfriend, Karina (Keyali Mayaga), or his edge in the counterfeit-merch game. Directed, photographed, edited, coproduced, and cowritten by Sean Baker, Prince of Broadway scintillates with the live-wire energy of its mostly nonprofessional cast and the authenticity of its documentarylike production, shot on location in New York City. With this marvel of shoestring-budget guerrilla filmmaking, Baker deftly combines the streetwise and the heartfelt, proving himself one of the contemporary masters of American independent cinema.

Repo Man was only available on standard Blu as well, so I will keep looking for the 4K..

I went to a different Barnes & Noble while I was in the neighborhood during lunch hour and was finally able to grab the Val Lewton I Walked with a Zombie / The Seventh Victim double-feature on 4K UHD Blu-ray.

I am happy to have completed my collection of Val Lewton horror, either on Blu or 4K.

There were no other Criterions on the shelf at this Barnes & Noble that elicited my interest, but I did pick up a few non-Criterions at sale prices...

Torso 4K
North by Northwest 4K
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari 4K

Up until a couple of weeks ago, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari was the scariest cabinet that I had ever seen.

I went back and bought Seven Samurai 4K to add to this month's haul.

No way I am actually going to upgrade every Kurosawa Blu-ray in my collection, but this particular one is tops.

I only bought Seconds on Amazon although I might pick up The Long Good Friday next month along with Scarface from 1932. I literally just avoided this sale this time around as I'm trying to spend much much less and avoid most sales.

Dang, thought this was the Warner Brothers film from 1969. Big disappointment.

I just found out that Paris, Texas, which happens to be one of my top 10 all-time favorite movies, will be showing on the big screen at Plaza Theatre here in Atlanta on Saturday, so I am going to drive down there and catch an afternoon matinee showing.

Plaza Theatre is killing it this year. I saw Le Samouraï on the big screen earlier this year at the theatre (and met our own RojD in person there as well).

I have to say good luck with some of these as Disney is only now slowly opening up to putting out big catalog titles on Blu-Ray, and 4K. However, who knows what will happen next year so maybe there will be more long awaited titles finally put out on Blu-Ray for the first time. Still maybe we'll finally get them back to sub-licensing titles out to other labels again fingers crossed.

Watched my Paper Moon Blu-Ray yesterday and I have to say wow this film brought back so many memories. Including the fact that I remember watching this on VHS as my parents had this film on VHS, and I remember trying to watch the VHS of this as a kid, and really enjoying it. Then watching it again on AMC back in the mid 2000s it just was such a great film. I just love this film so much so experiencing it again yesterday put a huge huge smile on my face watching it again thanks Criterion the transfer was really great you guys did a great job. Also yeah I guess I forgot my family had this film on VHS so this film was a huge nostalgic trip for me.

Erm, I went a little overboard for 3x stamps, and starting in the new year I was going to start saving for a house and I said fuuuuddge it. Got a bunch online + in store, and with the rewards from the stamps from today I'm gonna go back on Sunday to get the rest of what I want.

Highlights of what I was most excited to get:
- Kurosawa's Dreams
- Paper Moon
- Fishing with John
- Chimes at Midnight
- Real Life and Mother
- The Lady Eve

Hoping The Golden Age of Television and Spirit of the Beehive goes back in stock before the sale ends, though.

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of seeing Paris, Texas, one of my top 10 all-time favorite movies, on the big screen at Plaza Theatre here in Atlanta this afternoon.

This is such an immersive movie, but even more so in a theater setting.

The new restoration looks marvelous. I am all in for the 4K next month.
