It's all nonsense and wasn't taken seriously by anyone. That's from 2020 by the way so nothing recent. It also hasn't hurt Payne's career whatsoever since he's had one of his biggest hits after it with The Holdovers, and is also doing a sequel to Election right now for Paramount.

Yeah I wasn't trying to start anything per se—I actually enjoy what I've seen of his work; love ELECTION and SIDEWAYS in particular—but notice how Criterion has not touched any Polanski as of late. I was thinking that might apply here, if they feel there's a risk of getting flack for it, that is.

It would be criminal if a masterpiece like Sideways didn’t get a 4K release. One of my all time favourite films.

That one is great and the descendants too but Nebraska is my absolute favorite of his movies

Not for nothin but Polanski has been known to be a creep for decades now, so I dont think this theory holds water.

They'll likely be held until all are available to ship. That's how they usually do it.

He says he doesn't know what's happening with Citizen Ruth. I thought it could happen at Criterion but who knows.

I tend to try to believe victims. But in some cases you have to come to your own conclusions. And Rose got some details wrong and to me it seemed more like a jilted hook up kind of thing. Over the years she's been very scattered mentally, probably because of Weinstein.

I always figured Criterion would do Citizen Ruth, same with O Russell’s Spanking the Monkey or Flirting with Disaster. Those early films from eventual successes is something I also equate with them at times.

I'd love to see all three of those but I think they're trapped in Disney hell.

Yeah, the two cases are not really similar. Polanski has outstanding warrants for his arrest and won't even enter the US the past 10 years for fear he'll be jailed. Payne has pretty much only the social media allegations by McGowan, which he has denied and don't seem to have much impacted his reputation.

Already been said ANORA is definitely happening for April, so you forgot that one. The early Sean Baker set is also a serious possibility.

Also, as far as unconfirmed but very possible predictions go, since MEMENTO has a completed 4K restoration that's already been screened, I'm gonna go ahead and predict it gets released by Criterion sometime by September this year to coincide with the 25th anniversary.

There are also rumors of Criterion putting out PEDICAB DRIVER, and with them having recently (finally) released EASTERN CONDORS and some other Warner Archive titles coming out from Criterion this year, I am going to assume there's truth to those rumors.

I might've said SIDEWAYS if Disney did not have the rights now and he had not gotten MeToo'd. Criterion doesn't seem to want to touch films made by allegedly predatory directors these days. (Case in point: no rush to release a Blu-Ray of KNIFE IN THE WATER despite having the rights.)

If I may be so tasteless, they are likely waiting for Roman Polanski to die before they release one of his films. VS had the chutzpah to do The Tenant though, which makes me believe either VS didn't care or Polanski doesn't profit off of it like he would off of Knife In The Water or some other films. At 91 years old, the floodgates will likely open within one year of his death.

It won't happen, but everyone should get together and do all the MGM Camera 65/UP70 films at the same time. WB owns four (Raintree County, Ben-Hur, Mutiny On The Bounty, Battle Of The Bulge), MGM owns four (IAMMMMW, The Greatest Story Ever Told, The Hallelujah Trail, Khartoum), I don't know who owns The Fall Of The Roman Empire (Paramount? Bronston? Whoever owns Bronston?), and unless things changed while I wasn't looking Lantern owns The Hateful Eight. There's already a new transfer of Ben-Hur that's dropping...eventually...so one down nine to go.

My own opinions of Salo notwithstanding, I am truly shocked Salo hasn't had a 4K yet. Going back to the laserdisc days, and through three DVDs and a Blu-ray, Salo has been one of Criterion's most notable titles and biggest sellers. It's easily one of the ten titles I think of when I think of Criterion, and much like Citizen Kane, I'm shocked Criterion hasn't bent over backwards to do a 4K of Salo by now.

Now, while I only saw the Criterion disc booted online, the disc and the stream I watched ages ago (I was 15, so 2014-2015, and I can't remember the site) look 99% identical, and they weren't that impressive AV-wise. Granted this was probably a legendary transfer when it was done, but I wasn't impressed in 2014-2015, and I'm less impressed browsing the caps now.

For the other 99% of people out there, high time this gets redone. No better time than the 50th anniversary.

As I just told someone else recently, I could totally see VinSyn putting out VENUS IN FUR now that they have a deal with IFC.
